Just finalized order on a 2019 xDrive 30i, Phytonic Blue Metallic, Black SensTac, Premium Package, Driving Assistance Plus and Parking Assitance Plus (the reason we pushed in to order vs getting off lot).

Pricing for us is 11% off MSRP (from bmwusa) but that is including all rebate. They also offered to lock us in for 90 days at 2.25% 60 months with an extra 1.5k rebate so I jumped on that even tho at first our plan was to lease. I might still switch back to lease when the car comes in pending what MF is at the time. But the financing deal seemed pretty good.

Engineering hold

Hi ,

I just got notification that my performance center delivery is on hold until the hold is removed for my 2019 x3m40i.

It says waiting on EPA and carb emissions approval. Anyone know about this process. How long.

Thanks

How can there be a hold on a 2019 M40i when they haven't even entered production yet?

Some of these offers may be regional. While I can get about $2500 in rebates and 2.25% APR on 2018 x30i and M40i or 2019 s30i, there are no offers for my zip code for 2019 x30i or M40i models.

I got 6.5% off MSRP for my 2019 M40i order, and any rebates/offers in effect at time of delivery would be added on top of that. Any of the offers they had for the 2018 models would push me up/over 10% discount, but I am doubtful they would offer these deals on early production 2019 models right out of the gate. I'll take it if they offer it, but am not expecting it. I plan to pay cash, but if there is a low APR with a $1500-2000 APR credit (like they have run recently) I would finance a small part of the car and then pay it off short term. You absolutely need to do the math and plan ahead to make sure any interest accrued doesn't eat too far into APR credit rebates.

So you are saying you cannot pay off the loan early like on the next month?

You can pay off, but probably not the next month. There is always fine print governing the amount of time you have to carry the loan before you can pay it off and not void the rebate. So read the fine print and make sure the interest you accrue in that time period won't eat into the rebate savings too much.

With BMW I have seen both a minimum amount that can be financed, as well as a minimum term before the payoff. The bottom line is that they set it up so that you can't get the rebate "for free" by signing up for and then paying off the loan immediately, or transferring the loan to another lender.

Based on the minimum amount of the loan and the required period of time you have to carry the loan (may be expressed as number of regular payments required) BMWFS is probably going to make at least $250-500 in interest.

I did some googling on this since I couldn't find the fine print on BMW's website -- it's probably not something you see until you get the actual contract.

Sounds like there is still a minimum loan amount -- saw $10K mentioned several times -- but no payoff time requirement or prepayment penalty. But if you pay off the loan before a certain time (5-6 months was mentioned) then the rebate gets charged back to the dealer and any commissions the finance and sales staff made on that rebate deal also get charged back. So the dealer gets screwed a bit and the finance/sales guys get screwed, but not you.

I'd still suggest reading the fine print thoroughly, as I will. And I probably wouldn't mention it to anyone if you plan to do a temporary loan just to get a rebate. I saw some people suggest pay all of the loan off except $10, then carry that for 5-6 months before paying it all off. That way nobody gets screwed. But this was all internet information so who knows. Would be good to hear from someone from BMW or a dealership who can tell us their side of the story.

This is _precisely_ what I did. In Massachusetts, and I believe most other states, a pre-payment penalty is illegal.

I got a $1000 bonus -- up front, off the price of the car -- for financing with BMW FS.

I'd have paid it off the day after I closed I could've. But you can't because BMW Bank (the entity that actually holds the note) didn't book the loan until two weeks after the deal closed. Then, another week for BMW to process a lien release and get me the title to the car with a release on it as well.

Total interest cost: about $45.

Then, I had to pay $25 for a duplicate title. Net rebate: $935.

Bottom line, a dealer telling you that you have some "minimum commitment" to a loan is just trying to increase profit. Don't buy it.

Add up MSRP for the build: $65070. Final price after rebates is $54995 or about 15% below MSRP.

Thanks.

I am shocked. Every other dealer in Boston (including one in Springfield) was at least $3500 more. Most refused to commit to BMW FS rebate. Apparently, this dealership is happy to assume that BMW FS will offer $2000 on MY19 X3s before my unit ships.

But I think the real take-away is that you need to find a dealer who is having a bad month -- or thinks they are not going to get to their goals. I am convinced that's what worked for me.

The store I bought from is one of two owned by the same group. The two stores are run independently. The other store in the group was the most expensive, with a bid of $63500 before rebates. It can only be that the store I bought from is off their objectives.

The dealership I'm purchasing from has their test drive on 8/11. Does anyone know if this applies toward an ordered X3?

If you order in July for a 2019 does it go against their July number, or does it go against their number when you take ownership?

Sale counts at time of delivery. They do play games however.

What do you mean by them playing games?

I'm trying to figure out what my negotiation leverage is to try to get a sick deal on a car I'm ordering. If sales count at time of delivery, them having a bad month now doesn't really factor in to anything, save for the guy who thinks they might be screwed already for year-end targets.

The way I negotiated was by talking to multiple dealers. There are five dealers within 1 hour of my home which made it really easy to do over the phone/email. It took me 3 months of back and forth and I am very confident in the outcome of 12% off with discounts and rebates

Even if you don't have dealers that are close to you I would still recommend emailing around. You don't need to tell them where you got the deal from. If the dealer can give you a screenshot of the terms it makes it really easy to pass around.

Several times I have seen a dealer back-date paperwork to make the sale count in the previous month. However that's typically done within the first couple days of the new month. It's probably not something they'd be doing over the course of a 4-6 week build.
