2011 X3 - Got Active Cruise Control?
Hi all,
Just ordered a 335xi and saw the new 2011 X3 configurator, so I was trying to build one comparable to the 335xi I got. I know the cars are completely different, but I'm not interested in that...what I did notice is no mention of Active Cruise. Is it standard or just not available? Thanks for any insight. |

The cruise has the brake function (which slows you down on hills to keep the speed right) but it's not the active(radar controlled) version (yet?)

Ah, I see, glad that's cleared up, also glad I didn't wait for the X3, I really wanted the active cruise personally.

Correct - no active cruise - obviously yet.
Can you tell how to deactivate the cruise temporarely without touching the brake pedal? Meaning that after that you can then resume the speed you had chosen before deactivation. In my current X3 (20d, 2009) you can do it by pressing once the I/O button (=deactication) and again the "speedo meter" button (=reactivation) to get the speed set earlier. I had a short test drive with the new X3 (F25, 20d A) and couldn't find the way how to do that trick. (I don't like blinking the brake lights on a motorway.) |

Has BMW improved Active Cruise? Last I heard on the 6er forums, Active Cruise was pretty "meh" (in that it didn't seem to work especially well for the guys who ordered it, but that was a couple of years ago).
On my 6er (which may have a different system from the X3, but maybe not), you can momentarily hold down the lower left stalk on the steering wheel (about a second or two) to deactivate the cruise. It can then be resumed by pressing the stalk forward. Holding it down for an extended period (several seconds) turns off the cruise control system entirely. No brake pedal required.

I just took delivery yesterday of a new 3 series and have the feature, so far I LOVE it, soooooo good, I went about 20 mi in slow moving traffic without a hitch. Its not the new advanced stop and go version but still, I think it works great.

new X3 (F25) cruise control works - as it should
I tested the one in 520 20d - the same as X3 is having. It works without touching the brake pedal. To deactivate just press once the "meter"-button on the steering wheel. To re-activate the set speed again just press the RES-button.
