Just saw this. Could save you carrying your key. Unlock etc with iPhone or Apple Watch.

Do we think our cars will get it as it should work with comfort access? Or is this just going to be compatible with latest iDrive?

Hopefully it will be iD6 compatible.

current F97/98s dont have the necessary hardware built into them to support carkey. the carkey feature requires NFC.

the current 3 series already support smartphone unlock via NFC but only for Samsung phones. im sure with a simple software update to both iOS as well as the iDrive BMW can support iOS device car unlock as well.

i’d say youd have to wait for the LCI F97/98 (at the minimum) to see these technologies trickle down the line.

It has been already noted from the threads that while the LCI is now on SP18 which should support the Digital Key, due to the chip shortage, BMW has removed the NFC pad and the NFC door handle from the LCI, including the X3/X4M LCI.

All our 2022 orders currently have 32Z - Deletion of Digital Key unfortunately.

To be honest, I find the Digital Key more of a pain than carrying a key. It's not instant and is still finicky when unlocking doors. If it's raining it never works as fast as comfort access does. Not to mention you need both hands to open the door unless you unlock it then drop your phone back in your pocket. If you do the latter you then have to dig it back out to drop it in the charging tray to start the car. Way more steps than just carrying a damn key. 🤷🏼*♂️
