Paint defect? What would you do?

Picked up my X3 a couple weeks ago and love it! Happened to notice some circles on the door handle that don’t come off. Under the clear coat and smooth to the touch. What would you do?

A: Nothing and tell me to just get over it
B: Just document it and potentially fix it later
C: See if they can repaint/repair the door handle
D: See if they will replace the door handle

Once I see, I cannot unsee, but I also know there’s the risk of making it worse!

definitely get them to fix it. Lucky it's only the door handle not a large panel. Even if they did make it worse, they could order a replacement part...

cheers

Garage List
a. Is up to you.
b. Documenting will do nothing. Fix it or forget it.
c. They will repaint for you if you want.
d. New handle would need to be painted.

I as see it; forget it or have them fix it. If you have them fix it, it may not be perfect either.. color may not 100% match. Loaner will be involved. You might discover something afterwards - a scratch or small dent - that you will be convinced they did. Etc.

That is to say; you have to figure out how much it bugs you and is it worth the cost /risk of repair (even though no $$, there is still cost to you). The sooner you figure out, the easier, quicker dealer will respond to you.

If they get a new part it may well come unpainted anyway. As for colour match, that shouldn't be too hard but when you paint metal and paint plastic the colour rarely matches perfectly anyway. Look at plastic bumpers - on most cars - these don't match the painted panels.

Get them to fix the paint.

I doubt that door handle is a factory finish. It's more likely been repainted to remedy transit damage prior to delivery and they've done a poor quality job.

I'd absolutely get them to fix it and there's no way I'd accept the car like that factory finish or not.

I agree w/ this...

I also don't think I could ever "unsee" this and it would bug the hell out of me... I would definitely opt to get it fixed.

Another vote to fix! I picked up a 330i almost 20 years ago with scratch marks on door handle- went straight back to dealer to report and never did anything about it.. Still have car and still look at it!

Brought it in today. They called the paint defect fish eyes. New handle on order and covered under warranty.

I think RevNev called it that it was likely repaired during transit. I didn’t ask and don’t want to know (and don’t want to know if there were other dings). Ignorance is bliss. Just happy it’s getting fixed!

Thanks again for the replies and advice!
