yes, blend mount for blackvue is best bet,
my case was that i wanted to install radar detector and dash cam as well

used previous mount one that i had and modify little bit
(just took off some links)
direct screw into mirror cover, it was kind of pain in the xxx
because i had to squeeze my head into there due to cover should be together
see some photos.

below link is one that i used..

Great solution when you are using the mirror for the radar detector already!

What's the point? Record accidents? Deter theft with a little red light? Catch license plate of door dingers? Or record massive daytime meteors...Interested to know how they've actually helped someone.

Thanks.

You can of course save on the battery and just hardwire it to your car battery.
Another vote of confidence in Cellink NEO battery. Highly recommend it.
Cellink battery installed and works well. Only issue is the inability to turn off notification in the app.

Record accidents is a huge benefit, esp if no one else witnesses the accident you have video evidence. I had a hit and run where I got rear ended once and I remembered the plate but insurance told me that if I didn't have photo or video they couldn't hold the other party responsible in a court of law.

Does anyone know if BMW Driver Recorder feature became available for X3M MY21's with the big iDrive 7 software update in July? I am tempted to at least try it out for the 1st month for free to avoid the hassle of installing a 3rd party dash cam. It is not the same quality but it looks like a decent alternative for the price and would be a built-in solution...

Still using the Blackvue 650 2ch, but redid the mounting with the Blendmount specifically for the F97

Besides all those you listed, my dash cam got me out of a traffic ticket when a cop lied about me taking a left turn from the far right lane (cutting over 3 lanes). If it weren't for the video, I would've never won.

It's also prevent me from a ticket when a cop pulled me over for running a red light when it was clear I didn't

Only if the 2021 gets SP18 idrive 7. With full functional idrive 7 like the 3 series and X5 and X7 and such. If you don't have remote software upgrade, then you have SP15 idrive 7.

I work in software so I can understand nuances like this but this is still so frustrating for a customer, not being able to know for sure where it will be available. It should come to all versions of a certain iDrive generation and not dependent on a certain Service Pack. Also, it is 2020 and BMW should allow for software upgrading from one iDrive to another one. They really need to step up their software game or they will fall behind.

Anyone with a MY21 car able to check if it appears as a service to buy on their BMW App or on the iDrive? The big update in July was supposed to bring a lot of functionality like Android Auto and I was hoping for this to be part of it as well.

Idrive versions will never be able to be upgrade via software. They all have different hardware and head units and such. I understand the frustration though. Dealer personnel hardly know the terms SP15 and SP18. Also android auto. Like I said, sometimes we at the dealer don't even get god information regarding features and why some idrive 7 vehicles don't have remote software upgrade.

I've ordered the BlackVue DR590 2 channel. A simple 1080p @ 30fps is enough to act as witness to an accident. I ran a pair of DR500s for years on two different BMUUs and they recorded a lot of stuff.

I’ve had the same cheapie triangular thing that I can’t remember the name of (similar to this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V4MPVXC..._zANsFbFE7HF4W) about 5 years now, just keep moving it car to car. For me it’s primarily for accident evidence, so I don’t see the need to pay up for more features. Have it wired into the mirror on the f80, will probably just move it to the f97 next week.

Sharing my recent experience (Southern California) while driving in heavy traffic towards San Diego and moving at 8-10 miles per hour.

In my rear view mirror, I see a motorcycle approaching (in the narrow space between lanes) while rapidly shifting the body weight from left to right. It was clearly unnecessary since the filming of CHiPs show ended in 1983 and Erik Estrada no longer needed a stunt man.

Few seconds later, the rider lost control and bounced off two vehicles damaging the the bumper on one and a rear quarter panel on the other.

The rider was unhurt and quickly got up. The drivers of both vehicle got out to inspect the damage and one of them asked whether the rider was OK.

The dash cam is invaluable.

Exactly what I`ve been using in mine as well. Works just fine as an incident recording device. Ported them over from my `19 m40i.

Had the BMW Eye 2.0 installed during the recall update yesterday. Fitted for £499, it gives front, rear and parking coverage and looks very high quality. I'm still trying to work out how to access it via the Ace app, but it is very challenging. There is no screen, which I think I prefer as it can distract somewhat, especially as I have video in motion.

I can't really make a call on it yet as I have not really figured out what it can do,
