2013 x3 troubles - Software Update question
x3 troubles - Software Update question
Hello! NEW to BMW, new to 2013 X3 2.8i xDrive, and new to this forum. I have the dreaded "DriveTrain Malfuntion" error and have cleared as many error codes as possible using the ODBC and BimmerLink. On the BMW website https://www.bmwusa.com/owners/software-updates.html and the MyBMW App, both show that there are no software updates for the 2013 X3. They also indicate how important it is to KEEP THE SOFTWARE UPDATED. These two things don't go together. So... CAN the software in a 2013 X3 be updated? If so, how? Must it be done by the stealership? Thanks in advance for the help. Caz cazman@yahoo.com |

Welcome to the forum....
I seriously doubt the "DriveTrain Malfunction" error has anything to do with outdated software; use ista+ to diagnose the issue. The downloadable software from the BMW website is typically basic stuff like newly added phone versions. I downloaded UPD01008 and installed it a while ago, it added support for newer phones and maybe some bug fixes... With a vehicle over a decade old, there's probably is not any needed newer software/firmware, use e-sys to check the I-step version. You're not going to download newer versions from BMW, though you can update it yourself with e-sys from the PSdZ data. If it's not broke, don't mess with it.
