Yikes.
So, on a related topic, I was driving the other night wearing jogging pants. Key falls out of my pocket while driving and goes under the seat. I continue driving just planning on retrieving it when I get home. Look under the seat and it’s not there. It’s late so I figure I’ll just look again in the morning. Look again in the morning and even get my kids to help. No one can find it. I decide to perform a test and see if the car will start, indicating the key is in the car. Yep, it starts. My best guess at this point is that it went down the vent that is under the drivers seat. Crap |

That will buff right out.
At least you have the expensive part, the cut key. |

I’ve been told that wouldn’t work. Needs to be a brand new key from BMW dealer + programming to get the comfort access to work

Worth asking. I know my local shop does them for a fraction of what the dealer charges. Haven’t used them but a few friends have.

I bought my 2022 X3M gently used and it only came with one key. Dealer agreed to purchase me a second key. It came in, still in the sealed parts bag and they had me sync it myself using a specific procedure on the side of the steering column. My point being, there's no "programming" to be done, it seems. Comfort access works just fine.

now a coder with the proper tools can buy a blank key and program it themselves, but it's never a guarantee. I've had issues when I lost one of my keys on my old F80. coder attempted (went through the CAS and everything) but it didnt work, though it had worked for others. I instead got it through the dealer after the fact to save myself the headache. yes it costs a lot more, but the third-party route never worked for me. oh well.

Go to the dealer I had two guys come out and neither one could read the ecm in the engine bay with the tools they had. Called my SA and he said “No don’t let know one try to make a key other then Bmw” he said something about the security module gets corrupted by some the aftermarket tools they use. One key is $600 programmed that my price he gave me it may differ.

That may be true about the BS part, but coming from someone who isn’t handy around there cars shouldn’t be posting remarks like this. I do a lot of my own work for fun.
