Good, I took a lot of grief in early posts at the suggestion, and now I can add them (if the wife doesn't remove them right away) since they will match the OEM. I have been getting a lot of condescending comments from a neighbor with an old Mercedes SUV who obviously thinks I bought a sales leader, since it is absent the chrome, etc.

I think that’s a Stratocaster btw. I’m just back here looking for the correct OEM part number as the first pair I bought a year ago were proportional but oversized.

The C43 AMG’s are actually fantastic cars... how they’re insulting to “AMG owners” I’m not sure... maybe because they paid less but have the same suspension and geometry carried over from the C63 😉. That chassis and powerplant is awesome. And for the $, a modern day bargain. It was a tough call for me between the X3M40i and the C43 in fact... but ultimately I wanted more room and utility.

As far as the “M badge” debate, it’s always been around and alway will be. But really who cares right? Someone on here should buy 200 M badges and put them on their car. Hey different strokes for different folks. The extra 5 lbs they gain from the plastic might be offset by the 200+ extra HP they just gained anyway 😉.

Those that don’t have always “want”... and those that have, never “care”. Not sure human psychology will ever change.

The same discussion raged on the E9X M3 Forum when the news cam out about cars like the M340i (at times with a lot of passion). A couple of points:

1. BMW has a long history of using the M designation for models like the M340i. I've attached a photo from the brochure for the M535i that I picked up at the Frankfurt show in 1985.

2.Like someone said earlier; Using the M designation is a way to sell cars and make more money on them. The M stands for Marketing as much as it does for Motorsport (maybe more). BMW is going to do what it is going to do.

Was that and actual BMW model, or just an individual customization? What I'm really asking, is did you beat me to the punch? I don't recall BMW having M models until the E28.

Beating you to the punch or not, I think we are on the same page. The E12 M535i was not sold in the US but still, it's an M Performance vehicle and not a fake just because of some factory badges.
