BMW Spartanburg Shutting Down

It was inevitable. Sheesh. Good luck to all members waiting on delivery.

The BMW plant in Spartanburg County will temporarily shut down production on April 3, according to Sky Foster, Communications Manager for BMW Manufacturing Co.

They had to, running out of parts since the EU plants are all shut down. Sorry to everyone waiting on cars, that sucks and hopefully you get them soon.

Mine is supposed to be completed by April 3. Hope I don't get the last one off the line when everyone is going home.

I made a build order last week and was told that it would be delivered end of April. I'm not even sure if it even started production. I'm wondering if I should just cancel it and wait for additional incentive later.

The plant closure may dissappointing for some, but if it's the only thing to worry about, all is good.

My thoughts are with the healthcare workers putting themselves in front of the bullets.

PCD not operating until at least May

Not surprising given the Spartanburg shut-down, but I also just received an email that my Performance Center Delivery Experience, scheduled for April 21st, would not happen, and the vehicle will be routed to the dealer instead.

The Performance Center Delivery experience will be suspended, according to the email, until early May.

I will be able to reschedule for a later time, and certainly look forward to doing so.

I'm currently in 'Production Begins' status, hoping for completion and shipment before the shutdown.

I got a message saying some factory is shutting down starting April 3 through April 19th.

I had a BMW X3 PHEV in build order, and I just canceled it. The dealer refunded the $1000 deposit the same day, since the car did not start production.

Assuming we can still order X3 models, but will just have an extended build cycle, correct?

Thank you PostModern! As mentioned my selling dealer was no help at all. Pretty much we'll call you when we "know" something. Hmm. So called BMW Customer relations and asked about tracking my build. She did a little digging and came back a little confused. Wasn't needed to "track" my build since...it was delivered to the dealer yesterday!! Called my salesman and he still gave me the no clue speech. Until I told him who I spoke with. He said he'll look into in the coming days. But now that Michigan is in this virus lock down, dealers are not allowed to sell cars! So it sits at least until April 14th. UGGGGGGG

Are you sure about that? We are in lockdown here in Washington, and my dealer sent out an email stating they are still open for business... since "transportation" falls into the allowed category. They are stating their precautionary measures when you come in, but also have a buy online option with free delivery of your vehicle if you are within 50 miles of the stealership...

Looks like it. I checked out other car dealers and all have the same limits. No sales, but can service them. Thanks to our wonderful Governor!

Wow, that's something. You ordered on the 9th and 2 weeks later the car is at the dealership. I need to check my status. I ordered on the 2nd and it the completion date is supposed to be April 4th.

Thanks, I called BMW Customer Service. My order has been received but not produced yet. Oh well, as you are experiencing, can't pick it up anyway, also no where to drive. Enjoy your car when you get it.
