HELP 2021 x3 M40i Performance Upgrades?

I have a 2021 X3 M40i I bought and was looking forward to a tune once I hit 50k miles. I love the car, but now seeing the 2021 tuning issues, I can't find much help.

Are there good upgrades I could do that would add some power once I hit that 50k? I'm young, coming from a Mustang GT350. Everything I know about modding the car comes from Pre-2021. I had no idea there would be a difference between the 2020 and 2021, due to neither having the mild hybrid.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Proud to be in the XBimmer world now!

Why are you waiting until you hit 50k miles,is there something specific??

Anyways, you can always do a piggyback such as RaceChip or JB4 and get some real nice gains if you don't want to mess w the ECU. Piggybacks are controversial around these parts so do your research before jumping in

I’m legit curious as to what you find “controversial” about piggyback tuners. I put a JB4 on my new X4 almost immediately after purchase as I thought it was the easiest and most trouble free mod to begin with. There have since been many other mods…

Easy killer...all I posted was piggybacks are controversial around these parts, meaning you'll find peoples opinions on them vary greatly and many prefer an ECU tune,I never stated I find them controversial;I have a RaceChip GTS on my X3MC

Killer…I LOVE IT!!!

Thanks brother

A Nordic unlock was off the table since I started with 7 years of warranty. They could still point to the JB4 if I have a powertrain issue down the road but I’ll cross that bridge then

Thanks for the response!

I am just going to ride out the warranty first. Warranty will run out at 50k miles. Everyone is sure the Piggybacks work with the 2021 models? So weird there’s such a lack of this on the internet, when 2020 MY there is a SEA of all the different builds and all the different moss and everything. Then MY ‘21 it’s the Sahara.

Well it depends on the actual build date of your DME, if it say it's was built before June of 21. You can easily have it unlocked here stateside and then flash it to any tune you want. But if it's after June 2021, then yes the price to have more "fun" is to send the Dme to Finland to have it unlocked or hopefully in the near future mission performance will have an update on their user unlock mod for newer June 2021 vehicles.

I have a 2022 and have been using a jb4. I also run an e30 mix and have been enjoying the power. Like many other bmw owners once you add any sort of tuning device or software, the dealer can see that the vehicle performance was increased past its normal parameters and use it as a reason to deny a powertrain claim.

So you can wait till 50k miles or put on your big boy pants to have some fun....lol

Piggies work fine until they dont.

It's a bad idea because you are manipulating the engine input and feedback to/from the ECU. Safety features are comprimised.

OP you can use a piggyback. Yes JB4 is your main option, there are others but this is the best one. Lastly if you do want a tune you need to lookup FEMTO unlock. There are dozens of posts in the 340i forum section. You need to ship out your ECU to Finland.
Other than that you have intakes, downpipes catted or not, exhausts are your basic mods that you can do without a tune.

Yeah but I don't think he understands what tuning is either. He just described it, "you are manipulating the engine input and feedback to/from the ECU. Safety features are comprimised"

Like I said in the other post, a well full of info...LMAO.
