I had mine update this week and now my remote start and app controls won’t function at all…. I’m assuming I need to reboot something

This car is a huge computer on wheels. Sometimes updates fail.

After software updates, those items are reset and need to be enabled again. Since the dealer did the update you didn't get to see the notes of where this is mentioned.

I too just received the update notification and I am nervous to do the update. It seems like every updates comes with a buggy downside. I have to bring the M40 in for an oil change so I think I’ll just let BMW service deal with it.

I watched the video and nothing stood out to me as a big deal in terms of new features etc. Time shall tell…

Thanks for this, got it re-enabled in the settings menu!

My friend just heard back from the dealer. Apparently he’s fourth in line right now to get his car fixed from bricked RSU updates. I don’t know if it’s always this bad, but clearly this update needed a bit more fumigation before release.

The update happens while the car is locked and parked and takes about 20 minutes (I did it in my garage since the engine doesn't run).

Did your friend attempt to open the locked car while it was updating and try to start the car? This would be equivalent to a PC being interrupted while updating the BIOS (you'll brick that too!).

What I don’t understand is why we need to scan a QR code and load the coding changes to our phone to get this update. Why not just send the car the coding changes like other updates. Our newer X3’s are fully capable of receiving over the air updates which just seems easier and more reliable. It’s as if the update also requires updates to the BMW app on our phones or something. Very weird if you ask me.

The other thing I don’t like about this update is that the video doesn’t specify how long the update will take (unless I missed it) or if the car needs to be running for a successful update.

I never scanned a QR code. From memory, here is my order of events:

1) Was notified by MyBMW app that an update was available. I initiated the download to the phone.
2) Once it was done, I was told the update would be transferred to the car.
3) Received notification from the car that the update was ready for install but required the car be parked, doors be locked, and would take about 20 minutes.
4) I started the install, locked the car, and walked away from my garage (engine never turns on).
5) I don't remember if MyBMW notified me the update was done or if I just checked on the car after 20 minutes but it was definitely finished by that time.
6) Settings like Remote Start were wiped so I had to accept the waiver about the legality of engaging the engine during circulation again.

Do you have an iPhone, Android, or other type of smartphone? I have an iPhone.

Same sequence for me. The App told me the update was done. Once you get out of the car and it starts the update, doing anything with the car like unlocking to check progress etc, would be I think, a very bad idea.

I got the notice for 22-07 on my phone. I have an annual service appointment on 8/18. I'm just gonna ignore it until then. So, this version doesn't disable the ability to remove ASS, correct? That's the 2023 version that only the dealers have, right?

Here are the main features I saw in the release notes:

• New option for closing the tailgate - Until now, you could start the automatic closing of the tailgate at the touch of a button. With the software upgrade, you also trigger this by pulling down on the tailgate. The tailgate then closes automatically.
• Expansion of the Remote Inside View & anti-theft recorder to include video
functions - In the My BMW App, you can use the Remote Inside View function to record a five or ten-second video of the vehicle interior. You can then access this recording in the My BMW App.

Do you need the 360 camera to access the remove inside view? this is the first I've heard of an inside view.

Not everything listed in the update notes applies to your vehicle. For sure the Remote Inside View does not apply to G01/G02, as they do not have the interior camera.

I seem to remember I was told that the car had to be driven while it downloaded from my phone to the car. That didn't make sense to me but I drove around for a while and watched the download progress status on my phone. When it was done I pulled into the garage, shut the car off and followed the directions on iDrive. I set the parking brake and the new SW installed in about 20 minutes.

After installing the update, I no longer have apple car play and no matter what I do, I can’t get back. Every time I try to sync the phone with the car, I get an error message:/

Installed the update the day I was notified. No issues. It does wipe your coding so you'll have to recode. It was a bit of a pain but gave me an excuse to reconnect and update the coding options I really wanted.
