382 Horsepower and 369 Lb/Ft with 48 volt Hybrid booster motor. BMW is notorious for lying about their numbers. Some one here said the engine really puts out over 430 Horsepower and almost 400 Lb/Ft Torque. I think the 400 mark is a threshold with insurance companies on what is considered a muscle car = even higher insurance.
4.4 sec 0-60 M40i 7.7 sec 0-60 30i (according to Consumer Reports) When I drove the 4 Cylinder it felt under powered off the line, but once underway the turbo kicked in and seemed decent. Their tuning reminds me a lot of SAAB. They retard power in first and second...once in third, you're off!! |

7.7 is REALLY slow and you'd feel that immediately... drive a 4runner if you want to feel 7.7 LOL... altho when I drove a 4runner, i wanted to drive it off a cliff based on how bad everything felt there

I’m not sure where CR gets their 0-60 numbers. Are they pulling a trailer filled with horses? Is Captain Slow doing the tests? I’ve seen some odd ones on other cars too. That time is as bad as my Mercedes ML430 from 20 years ago.
I like CR for the reliability reports but pretty much disregard their road test reviews and performance numbers.

When CR claimed a slant 6 was enough power for a full size Dodge I quit reading except for boring purchases like dishwashers.....................

Maintenance costs may also influence that decision too, I have to imagine that the same work costs more on an M40i than on a standard X3, so over the life of the car you're expected to pay even more. Ultimately it should come down to the use case and how much you're willing to pay for the extra performance and at the time of my purchase the budget was the more important thing to me. I would love to own an M40i, or any of the M Sport models that BMW makes, but for now I don't regret getting my cheap standard model at all. |

OMG I just got back from a trip where Avis "upgraded" me to a 4runner. It was hideous--honestly don't know how people can drive them. Slow, tilty, terrible handling, mileage worse than an M40i...yuck

Agree with you on the 4Runner, plus, it is not very attractive either. It does not shine until you drive it hard off road, tough to beat actually! Last edited by ContactPatch; 03-04-2023 at 08:34 PM.. |

Last one I swapped for the Macan GTS… 2014 4Runner Trail Edition with KDSS… added Bilstein 5100 shocks and did a 2-1 lift, FN Gunmetal Wheels, Terra Grapler G2s, RCI skid plates… it was the perfect daily driver that wasn’t overbuilt. Miss that truck sometimes… EDIT: Stock Runners drive like crap… but the ones that had KDSS, once you swapped out shocks and tires, they drove perfectly fine for a heavy suv. You just have to remember it’s an off-road vehicle… Not a BMW. |

Like I said… it was a great truck. It was the longest I kept any car I’ve owned as an adult. I also dropped in some Focal Speakers and sound deadening in the doors. Someone picked up one helluva 4Runner when I traded that sucker… |

I was always tempted to get a 4Runner because of how reliable and simple they are. Unfortunately after having Bimmers, I couldn’t get over the ride and engine. Not to mention my head hit the ceiling. It really is a good truck (emphasis on truck) and I wanted to like it, but I just couldn’t.
