UK: BMW Insured Warranty
My M40i is coming up to 3 years old, I'll be keeping it a good while yet. I do a low mileage though in that low mileage there are a number of long trips.
I'm weighing up the BMW Insured Warranty. With Roadside Assistance included it's around £400 for a year with a £250 excess for the warranty element. It seems expensive but for piece of mind I'm tempted. If an ECU fails, transfer box or worse then there could be a big bill though BMW could well contribute in such a situation. It’s pretty much fully loaded so has just about every possible sensor too. Who's considered the BMW uK warranty? Your thoughts would be appreciated :-)

Insurance eh? Always a gamble.
+ It's BMW - so (a) things are REALLY expensive if something big goes wrong [for example the quote price for my GF Audi MMI breaking was £1500 but was under warranty - phew] you get piece of mind it's assured + I had, for last year of lease with my car AA with parts cover, however this was around £20/month and the limit was I think £500 and only applied to a breakdown. So BMW is a tad more expensive but with a better cover - The cost right? But what cost piece of mind for you? Personally I don't think £400 a year with breakdown is massively bad - the breakdown alone would be what - £100 ish? Good luck with your decision:-) |

Yes, breakdown is just under £100 on it’s own. I’m tempted by £400 all in with £250 excess. For no excess it’s over £700, that’s too steep, I’d need to expect lots of small warranty jobs for that…I don’t.

I remapped mine so let the warranty lapse. The map is by a well known uk company who don't push things too far (DMS) and I have after a year, had no issues.
I am, though, aware of the costs of BMW repairs and it is a worry. If I hadn't of remapped I would have continued the BMW warranty as I have with other BMW's. It was pointless once mapped as I know they can see and I know how .. there is no hiding it if they look and I am not one for not being straight anyway. The thing with the remap was I was getting bored with my M40i so wanted to spice it up. I don't regret the DMS map one bit as I would have sold the car by now if I hadn't of mapped it .... but that said I have a little Toyota Yaris for commuting and that has effectively a 10 year warranty and the security of that is reassuring to say the least .... it makes me wonder if a RAV4 hybrid with similar warranty is a way forward for me ... as the warranty gives peace of mind. With hindsight I would not have mapped ... but would have sold by now ... so swings and roundabouts ! |

My UK 3 year warranty ran out in late June.
I am still waiting for a communication from BMW with a code to apply for their extended warranty. My iDrive services ran out in late July so was wondering is there is also a "complimentary" extension to the warranty before I get invited to apply. I can access the extended warranty purchase page but wondered if the BMW invitation code (if it still exists) gives a preferential rate. Any UK members help ? |

You need to get the invite from BMW to extend - without that you won't be able to as you need the PIN number. I also didn't get my invite before my 3 years ended, so had to ring Customer Services to get my code. There is no complimentary extension to the warranty and the period between manufacturers warranty running out and being able to take up BMW's extended warranty at their best price is, I believe, time-limited.
My X3 is now nearly 5 years old. I took out BMW's extended warranty as I figured the £400 option, (with £250 excess) was very reasonable - esp when you get the BMW European wide assistance included. Whilst I am happy to have had no reason to claim or use the breakdown, for £800 over 2 years it was well worth the piece-of-mind. I did look into alternate warranty providers such as Warranty wise, but they all came up significantly more expensive than BMW themselves. |

Hi @Speedbird1
Thanks for information, I've called them and yes it was time limited. 18 minutes phonecall with a guy in Germany who said the reason I didn't get the code was because my dealer hadn't updated my contact details! He has now set me up for a year from today's date which was a bonus. My Comprehensive cover with Roadside assist £422 with £250 excess. Much cheaper than the portal I originally visited. Thanks again. |
