Loud engine or rattling?

I bought a used 2015 BMW X3 2.0d facelift in february.

I have always found the engine to be really loud inside the cabin, but multiple passangers have states that it must be a rattling sound in the dash, not the engine.

Does anyone know what this sound can be? It it just very noisy engine, or could something be wrong or rattling? I appears at 1500rpm and gets louder the higher the rpm untill the engine noise outlevels the sound.

I is similar with engine cold, hot, driving or neutral.

In the video i shift between comfort and sport mode just to change the rpms.

Doesn't sound like it's in the dash, but deeper (as inside the engine bay).

Definitely not a normal sound.

It sound like its coming from front driver side.

I have a service apointment in december, but I really want to diagones it before that.

Sounds like a diesel.

I found a thread on a Norwegian forum of someone with identical symptoms and same engine. B47.

Their solution was replacing the fuel supply pipe/line to the high pressure diesel pump.

I have looked and listened to the engine today and the sound does sound like its coming from the same area as the high pressure diesel pump.

Interesting. I wonder why the fuel supply line would cause that noise. Are you experiencing any other symptoms like low power or not as good fuel economy as before?

If the line price isn't too bad and you can replace it yourself, I would try and tackle it. How many miles or kms on your current fuel filter?

I dont think the power is affected, but I do think my milage is a bit bad, but that could just be my agressive city driving...

I have booket an apointment at a garage so we will see.

I have never changed that part, and I dont know what part it is. But I might be able to change that. I have looked at the diagram of the high pressure fuel system and looks like too many parts for me to guess which one it is.

Dont now if fuel filter has been changed, car has run 105 000kms. Maybe I should just change it

I think the fuel filter needs changing every 40k or 50k miles, so if you've never had it done I would definitely do that ASAP. Especially since you're heading into winter soon.

Any chance you've had your ECU scanned for any trouble codes? If there was a fueling issue, the car's electronics may have picked it up.

Based on the noise location (seemingly right inside the engine bay around firewall area?) I'd hate to think it's the timing chain. At only 105k kms, it should be perfectly fine... should be

Was at dealer today, they found it to be some clips for the fuel line causing the line to rattle.

They will change them.

Total cost $450.

$450 for some clips?? Yikes, what are they made of - unobtainium?

If it fixes the noise permanently, great. And you needed a new fuel filter anyway, so no loss there.

$450? Might as well just zip tie those lines down and spend the rest of the savings on a nice dinner.

Dealer installed new clips on the line from engine room to the back and noise is gone now for multiple days.

The clips where $50, work + diagosing the sound was $300
