Engine management light at 4.6k miles (faulty part diagnosed)
Hi,
Took the car to the local shops briefly earlier today. When I got home I noticed the engine management light was on near the speedo. Vehicle registered in Dec 19 with only 4.6k miles driven. No warnings or notifications other than that. Turned it off and back on again and it was still there. No control messages coming up on vehicle status. Any known issues causing this? Only other problem had with the car so far is a faulty tyre pressure sensor which was replaced. Last edited by Shadowdemon1; 04-22-2021 at 01:15 AM.. |

Fuel cap perhaps? Try opening then closing the cap again. Could take a couple of hours of driving around for the CEL to clear, assuming that's the issue

In addition to checking your fuel cap as suggested by others, I would suggest popping the hood and making sure your oil filler cap is tightly in place and that you do not see any loose wiring harnesses.
My dealer forgot to put my oil filler cap back after the last service. Luckily it was still sitting on top of the engine after the malfunction light illuminated. Even after putting the cap back, the light remained lit for multiple driving cycles. Good luck with this. Please tell us about the resolution. |

Nah, i dont have any such tool.
I wanted to avoid sending it in to my local garage for diagnostics if it was a trivial known fix (such as try and replace the fuel cap tightly). Honestly, they detract so much from the brand. I know there is a fuel tank recall doing the rounds, on a very limited number of cars as well. Let's wait and see, its going in tomorrow. |

A CEL for your car is like you going to the doctor and saying "I don't feel good." And then not giving them any more information. |

Car has been in the shop for 2 days now. The remote view app is great, can see exactly where it is and kinda what they are doing lol. I would hope this is the end of the problem if they are saying the lambda sensor is gone. I assume that will be that. It doesn't seem like a particularly exotic part and I am convinced it is related to an earlier recall, don't know if anyone can remember but the first stop notice on sales was to do with something similar? Unless I am wrong.. I reckon I had a relatively early car as it was Dec 19. I would expect similar issues to present shortly for others. |
