Dinan exhaust, would you keep/install it? Or return it? Am i just OCD about it?

Help me out here folks...

Do i keep this and move on to installing it?

Return it for exchange?

Get a refund and can i do better with something else?

The visible parts on the exhaust tips do have some scuffing's.

The majority of the damages are on the joining sides of the pipes and exhaust tips.

Well, after waiting for ~4 mos since placing the order, today is the day (so i thought)...

Box outside seem to be in "descent" shape. The packing tapes on the top is torn out. The packing staples have all been taken out. The top side was barely hanging on, to stay closed.

Nonetheless, staying positive ...

And from here gets worse...

... and only got one (instead of two) valve controller cover.

Would definitely send it back or expect the missing/damaged parts to be replaced.

Nothing to do with OCD. That is unacceptable for a cheap $1000 exhaust let alone what you probably paid for this one.

Damn you Dinan... I'm a good Dinan customer, with badges on e39 and e46...

So what though...

Will call the shop and see if the bends on the joining sides can be salvaged.

Maybe...

But definitely need replacement tips and extra valve unit cover...

SH*T !!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d call their technical department ASAP and they’ll take care of you. That’s just unacceptable, but looks like this is a common issue with Dinan. I came across another post that had a similar issue on the exhaust.

Btw, we have very similar e46 specs

I know how you feel!

My kit arrived yesterday. Didn't check my whole kit until I saw your post

How do you know if you are missing parts? Mine didn't come with part list. If you have parts list can you post it?

Dinan is sending me new tips.

Updated I'm just sending whole kit back for refund.

Replacement for sure. Even if it takes 6 more months. I would not install this on any car as this is not brand new.

slight bend in the piping can easily be remedied, but the scratches on the tips and missing parts are unacceptable.

contact Dinan and have them take care of it for you.

Dinan is sending me new tips. Fast response by email. Can the stainless pipes be expanded and still make a good clamp seal.
Neither did my packaging included any parts manifest.

I'm using their product web page to look at what's included and in their PDF installation doc which is also online.

I can definitely say that the DINAN quality has been compromised from what i'm used to from back in 2003 and 2004 days with e39 and e46 parts.

What happened there DINAN...

Steven Dinan sold the company years ago and was bought by DPB (flowmaster, apr, etc). He fully left Dinan a few years afterwards to work for Gnassi and then start his own company Carbahn.

tbh, quality of Dinan (company and products) havent really been an issue since unless there have been internal changes as of late.

Update:

Getting return label to return the rear section for "repair" from DINAN. Repair or replacement i didn't really care as long as the outcome is thoroughly quality controlled/inspected.

Having tips replacement sent and missing part as well.

I wonder how what the current lead time is on Akrapovic and their cost... but DINAN is the only one having 114mm tip size.......

Urgh...

Guys one question for all, who want's to buy this cheap shit?

Do you ever known that this exhaust i HEAVIER and WORSTER than the original one?

Ofc, it's can be louder, but don't do this...

I have one story of friend, he bought m3 CS f80, and decide to upgade watercooler system, but decide to order cheap brand. So one day, cheap intercooler made a leak and he lost his engine and ofc no warranty covered...

I can undestood, when ppl put cheap tuning on cherap car, but don't put on M cars.... it's kind very stupid. A lot of tuning parts, can make car even worster!

Oi. First off, not acceptable by any means. There is no argument about that from anyone. We will resolve all of these issues for folks that got a damaged exhaust -- just contact the support folks at 1-800-341-5480 or at support@dinancars.com and they will assist in rectifying the matter.

Looks like about a dozen systems made it out between the X3M and M340i that poentially had that questionable packaging. The balance of those systems that were going to ship have been stopped and are getting reinspected / reboxed, etc.

Just so everyone is aware and has some perspective on whats going on... Dinan has been struggling with an unprecedented increase in demand. Most notably for this conversation, in the exhaust sector. While this growth was seen pre-COVID and we were going through measures to increase throughput, etc. it exploded during COVID which made the need for additional resources even more important. This put extra pressure on completing these new manufacturing improvements to keep up with the swell in demand. As such over the past 2 years or so we have been working towards essentially having 2 exhaust production manufacturing centers in the US. A smaller outfit here at our HQ that handles our lower volume SKUs and sub-assemblies for all exhausts (such as the cans, valve assemblies, hardware kits, etc.) and then a much larger facility in Kentucky that does the higher volume SKU's and supplies the vast majority of the bent pipe. The kits that have been popping up this week are the first of the kits shipped directly from the Kentucky facility so there were bound to be some growing pains. I don't think we were expecting packaging to be the issue but alas. Working with the manufacturing/kitting team there to make sure packaging is up to snuff moving forward.

If it was packed that way I'm surprised no more damage was done. Very poor, even chinese stuff is packed better.

Guess we got 3 for 3 damaged exhaust and tips!
I'm also awaiting feedback. I went dinan route cause I like the tip design over the cf design other manufacture make.

I'm not going to bash Dinan because there has been unprecedented demand and I know the business environment is extremely challenging at the moment. At the same tune, you can say that about a dozens of industries right now and regardless, products can't go out the door like this, especially after months-long back orders - it's going to cause irreparable damage to their brand. Frankly I would be livid if I waited months only to have a haphazardly packed product arrive.
