Has a dealer fixed your door rattle?

So, my 2020 developed a door rattle (or two). I have never requested a dealer to fix something like this in all my life, but it’s driving me nuts.

Has anyone done this with their X3M? If so, did they fix it?

Thanks in advance!

My 2022 has a rattle in the driver door. If I put pressure on the carbon bit, pushing outward it goes away. Pretty annoying on rough textured roads. I will probably just pull it apart myself and see what's going on. I know if I take it in, they wont be able to reproduce it and it will just be a big waste of time. That's the only risk - it wasting your time. If you have time, do it and be sure to report back how it went.

My 22 has it on front right passenger door. Same reason I have not taken it in yet. Waiting for the annual oil change service to have them take a look.

I have a 2022 LCI X4MC, and I had a door rattle from the day I took delivery that drove me nuts basically every time I accelerated.

It took the dealer three visits and over 2 weeks of the car being with them to fix, but I can say that its finally fixed.

I now have rattles in the mirror housing and steering column, but I'm done giving them the car. I have to live with these rattles now, which is extremely unfortunately, but otherwise, my X4MC is incredible.

Yes, I had door rattles in the passenger side front, back, and drivers door all “fixed.” 2020 X3M. And all came back. Had them fixed again, and the passenger rear came back right before I traded it in two weeks ago.

Wondering if it is a LCI thing, I have the exact same problem since I took over my (new) car.

Mine is preLCI. Bought it CPO with 15k miles. From the way this thread is going it sounds like these are just rattle traps and we are going to have to live with it.

Does anyone have a 3/4M with 10k+ miles with no rattles?

Mine had a good deal of rattles, I am slowly trying to fix them all myself but the dealer hasn't really been much help. Lots of plastic in the trunk area to rattle...

My 2020 has no annoying rattles...yet.

The only thing I notice is slight creaking from the tailgate area when I first back it out of the garage. Nothing noticeable while driving..

I just spent the weekend fixing my trunk rattles, I now see why these things are rattle boxes. Thin metal and a relatively stiff chassis, the trunk even with some light taps with your finger vibrates. Sound deadening and some felt tape on plastic parts seems to have solved 95% of my issues. Door panel next ha

Glad you are making progress!
If you find any resources (e.g YouTube ) on getting the door apart, please share. I did some light searching and didn’t find anything great.

I am so glad I am not alone.

I adore my 2022, but it’s a bucket of rattles. I’d say I’ve fixed 90% of them and have since learned to live with it.

As far as door rattles go, you’ll find that most of the door card components use plastic welds. Sometimes, it appears as if the parts were not completely flush when welded, leading to play between the components after the plastic weld has been applied. Had these components been screwed together, all it would’ve taken is an extra turn or two on the appropriate screws. Instead, I had to resort to stuffing felt between components where I could to fill the gap.

There is also a persistent heavy rattle right by my head in the driver’s door/B-pillar. I believe it’s related to the rubber seals on the door. Haven’t played around with it yet but will try lubricating the seals, which resolved the same issue on prior cars.

I’ll echo the sentiment that a dealer isn’t much help, unfortunately. I love my SA and the team at my local, but they’ve admitted at not being great at solving rattles, especially without reintroducing new ones. At least they’re honest.

Good luck.

Yeah, I have noticed there being limited stuff online. I am 90% certain the 340i and base x3 door panels are the same so I have been watching videos of those. Kies motorsports had a good one for the 3 series and I am thinking it has to be pretty similar. Youtube kies shadow line trim install, he had to take the door panel off in that video.

Just noticed a persistent rattle coming from drivers door, seems right around the door lock area, which is right next to my ear so it’s annoying. Pushing on the door panel in that area seems to stops the rattle, not sure what a fix would be. I’m due for 1,200 mile service real soon, will add this to list, but I know dealers hate the “rattle complaints” lol. Anyone else have the door rattle?

To all,

Option #1 The lock pin that sticks out at the top of the door, rattles against its housing, cover it with black electrical tape and the sound goes away. This has been an issue since the e46.... very annoying.
