In the market for my first X3

Hi folks,

I've decided to purchase an older ('09 / '10) X3. This will be my first BMW.

I'm currently searching through the forums looking guidance on buying an older model X3 but that's a skill in & of itself, so I'm reaching to ask the membership if they may have some quick links handy.

My requirement is that the vehicle have <120k miles. What issues does one normally see at or below this level?

Thanks,

Hello good luck on finding your new and first X3,
A few things to look out for on the first generation X3.
- rear springs (known to brake due to salty roads)
- at some point the radiator expansion tank will need to be changed. Known to crack.
- oil filter housing and valve cover gasket.
- check that the license plate lights actually work. It’s known to fail and it’s the whole trunk handle with the lights that gets replaced. Not a big job but it took me awhile to find out why my license plate lights didn’t work. It’s called “ trunk lid grip “

That would be a good start.
