Airbag puncture hole solution

After installing my carbon steering wheel trim and magnetic paddles I had a quick and easy idea to solve the unsightly puncture holes required to remove the airbag.

I know you can’t really see them but I know they are there and this is an extremely simply, $2 solution!

Originally, my thought was using the plastic push in bumper style fasteners. Those plastics screws with the ribs that push in…but went to Lowe’s (local hardware store) and found something even better. Located in the aisle with fasteners and such they have drawers of automotive fasteners. These are just little 5/16ths nylon hole plugs. Cost was less than $2!

Simply push these into the puncture hole and there you have it. No more unsightly holes in your wheel!

Nice. I don't know why BMW covered those holes in the first place. Will need these for my wife's X3MC where I already added the cf trim & my M2 when I install my new steering wheel next week.

Yeah, totally agree! silly design but easy enough to at least somewhat hide. And for just a couple bucks!

If the lazy ass tech was more careful, he wouldn't have made such a huge cut in the leather to remove the air bag. Granted, there would still be a mark on each side, but at best a small indent from the tiny cut would be left behind. Certainly nothing that would require a 5/16" plastic plug from the store.
But most of them don't care.

Lol I’m the lazy ass tech. First time removing the airbag so I definitely made the hole bigger than necessary as I messed with it. Regardless it’s a cut and no longer looks as it should. If your better than me and can keep your cut smaller they have smaller versions of the plug as well. 👍
