CG Precison VSC-2

Hi All,

Is anyone running a CG Precision VSC-2 on a 2022 X3M Comp? Their website doesn't list it as being compatible, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't be.

Thanks in advance.

I wonder how well people like the fully open valves vs OEM "open" on stock exhaust? Would the midpipe be needed stil?

On my 2021 X4MC, I pulled the fuse so the valves are always open. I think it sounds really good. Major difference. On my 2022 X4MC, I bought the valve controller and keep the valves open that way. Having the valves open made a noticeable difference on the 2022 but it is nowhere near as loud and "burbley"as the 2021. For me, the 2021 sound is good enough. But on the 2022, I will eventually put on a midpipe. Just too quiet even with the valves open all the time.

So I wired my wife's 2023 X3M open Monday. Easy. Prior to doing it I played around a little to see how they work. The valves are never fully opened on their own. Maybe about 2/3. Probably not a big deal but I figured since I am under there may as well do it all. Took off the 3 bolts, turned the valves all the way open, used a steel zip tie to secure them, put the cover back on, sealed and secured the plug.

It's very slightly louder, slightly deeper and a bit more burbles. No pops like years ago.

For the wiring configuration, just the M3/M4 version right? So this thing is only $220?

Got mine today, only took a week to get, which was nice. No instructions in the box, but seems pretty easy, thanks to the write up link above. The only question I had was around where to mount it. The link above seems to show it pretty clearly. Hope to install it tomorrow.

Hey!

Since you've had the controller for awhile, I got a question...Can you open the valves with the included remote without the car being on?

Asking since I like to use remote start but the car stays in comfort mode, so would be nice if you can open the valves with the remote beforehand.

And if you program the remote to the homelink does the remote still work?

1. car must be on for valves to be activated.
2. cold start is loud af anyway even with the valve closed since wastegates are open.
3. you can program the VSC-2 prior to ordering. so if you ALWAYS want the valves to be open, you can order the default as "OPEN" and activated as "Automatic (OEM)" or "CLOSED". you cannot, however, program it yourself. if in the future you prefer to have that changed, you will have to send it back to cg-precision to have it reprogrammed.

Got it. That makes sense. Thinking more on it, I can remote-start the car and then just open the valves with the remote to be open (Activated) so car is quiet. And you're right, its annoyingly tinny loud during cold start even with valves closed.

Just placed the order with same functionality as yours! Hopefully in the future these LCI's are cracked with BM3 so the valve actuation can be controlled via drive modes.

Thanks for the info!

They are cracked, but it does require removing the ECU and the unlock is in Finland, not the US.

Unfortunately, unlikely with the way BMW has been locking anything they get their hands on. Unfortunately newer dme's unlock really should be shared, but I get femto not wanting to give up their process too

Update: got mine and installed on my full Valvetronic catback. Programmed to Homelink and works as expected. Fully opens the valves 100% of the time. For installation location, on my 2022 there is an empty stud with a nut on it sticking out of the frame above the right side exhaust valve. (Sort of behind the right rear wheel well) No idea what it's original purpose was but it makes a nice, tucked away install location, yet still easy to access without dropping any shields or panels.

Finally installed this controller. 100% worth it. Car sounds sooo much better now with the valves open. I can finally hear some pops and bangs in m1 mode with settings at Sport +.

I have a question for those with the VSC 2. On my 23 X3M, I hear a loud metallic drone at WOT in 1st and 2nd gear at high RPM and goes away well before redline. It sounds awesome otherwise except in this one specific scenario. Anyone else notice this or is this unique to my car or year?

When programming the VCS-2 to the homelink, do you need program it to 1 or 2 buttons? The included remotes have an on and off button, will one homelink button need to be programmed for open and another specific for closed? Thank you

Just an update on this, it turned out the buzzing sound was from my left rear exhaust valve (functional but loose flap). My dealership replaced the entire rear exhaust. It did take a few visits but they got it right. I removed the VSC controller for the last few months but the sound persisted so I left it off to not cause questions.
