Instrument panel Q

Is it possible to program the bottom center of the instrument panel to show the total mileage of the car, as opposed to the stuff shown on the options menu (mainly the street/road that you're currently on)? Since it shows at startup and shutdown, you would think it should be possible.

Thanks.

Assuming you have ID7: Not the center, no. But you can set the right-side area to be Trip info and then set the Trip to be “Factory” which will show you the mileage.

Thanks for the option. Just seems strange that you can’t get simple, basic info on the center screen. I guess another example of “overdesigning” the IP.

The mileage actually appears on the center screen bottom BEFORE you start the engine. Once you start the engine, you can only see the mileage by going into the Trip settings.

Exactly. That’s why I asked if it’s possible to code it to just keep that mileage reading there during the driving phase.

BMW for whatever reason does not offer the flexibility and customization of Audi, MB, or even the domestics when it comes to their LCD instrument clusters. I find it really disappointing at the price point of these vehicles.

You can set the Trip Odometer in the instrument cluster (via the hard button) and a second one in the nav screen Trip Computer (via My Vehicle/Driving Information). The later resets trip MPG, average MPH, etc at the same time.

NOTE: This applies to 2020 models and IDrive 6. I don't know if its still there in the new display cluster and iDrive 7.

ID7 completely reworks the "trip" function. It's a lot better, in my opinion, but a lot different. You have Individual, Factory (lifetime), Start of Trip, and Since Last Fuel. These are all great options. I no longer have to reset the trip button when I fill up with gas; it's automatic.

One other question. Is the car supposed to be set up to default to channel 01 on Sirius on start-up, when you're using Sirius? Seems odd that it doesn't show the channel currently playing. Or did I miss a setting in the menu?

There are 4 Trip meters: Individual, Factory, Fueling and Start of Trip. The Fueling one always gets reset when you fill up. Start of Trip resets after 4 hours (or something like that).

I don't believe so. Trip from PCD was 4100 miles +/- and trip mpg was 21.6 (my co-driver has a heavy right foot )

The MPG for each trip function is tied to each individual function. So, yes the MPG resets for each refill.

My MPG reading doesn't automatically reset at refill. Oh well, it's just another button to push.

Hello! Its my first time using the bimmercode, I know this might be a dumb question but will changing the instrument cluster from 160 to 200 not affect anything? Or was it just in my head that my car got slower

You won't be able to read over 160 anyways so it's only visual.

How do you remove the trip odometer from the instrument cluster on the right side? I took my car in for service and someone changed the settings to constantly show the trip odometer on the center right side and I don't want it there, but can't figure out how to remove it.
