Attempting a transfer case and transmission fluid change
Hi! I'm new to this forum and to the platform as well.
I have a 2021 X3M Competition with RK front mount intakes, catless downpipes, solid rear diff bushing from Einhorn, BM3 Stage 2 OTS 93 Tune, and Xhp Stage 3 tune. I'm looking for some help regarding transfer case and transmission fluid changes. Specifically with these two things: 1. How I can hookup the car through the OBD port to service the tcase. Based on my research I have to put the car in service mode for the case to open a chamber and get full access to all fluid. 2. In the same way, run the procedure for transmission fluid exchange which has very specific steps and temperature ranges to target, etc. A friend suggested me to write here so that I could get some help getting software downloaded that I can install in my computer to do this. Please let me know. Shops want to charge too much for this and I'm not bringing the car to the dealership for this because I don't want to risk my DME getting locked again and having to waste money on FEMTO once again. I already have the OBD to ethernet cable. Thanks!! |

I would imagine Bimmerlink can do both functions you're looking for

Unfortunately not. I checked and found service reset options and the rear brake thing. Apparently there's a Transfer Case Sevice Mode that triggers something inside the transfer case to open a chamber when that specific mode is activated. For the transmission there is like a step by step wizard that the software I was told, walks you through. |

Well, there is ISTA, but it's more meant for service shops and is not cheap.
I would imagine doing a drain and fill on the TC would be sufficient, especially if you are changing it early. |

That is the software I read about. Supposedly from there I can open the chamber to get all the fluid out and also perform transfer case calibration after doing the fluid change.

If you look around, you can find ISTA. I believe there is a thread some where in the Bimmerpost ecosystem.

You definitely need the ISTA doc to perform the work. Or pay $400 that's what a shop wanted to charge me during a service, until I quoted them this doc.

Nope no need.. transmission and transfer case.
I'd say though this however is for a stock vehicle with stock power driven in a fairly normal way. If you track or do multiple launches then it's probably good idea to do regular changes imo. Having said that, my mechanic follows what the info on the key says during a service. |
