Did you set it to automatic and open? I would like if the valves work like it was in comfort. Open and close depend on how much I press on the throttle, work like it is normal but not having it fully closed.

ON: valves open
OFF: OEM (automatic)

so yes, thats what I have it as. most of the time, I have the unit as "off", so the valves work like OEM as intended. only when I want the valves fully open, I press the "on" button.

For those that have had their VSC-2 Controller fail, what were the initial symptoms? When I observe mine from behind the car, the left valve actuates instantly with the press of the remote. The right valve does not do anything for the first few button presses and then makes slight clicking noises and then actuates after a few seconds. Hoping its not on its way out. My controller is installed up above the exhaust onto a bracket away from heat but will see water.

Hey I’m also from Toronto, if the right valve does not do anything but the left does. It is on its way out unfortunately.

Hello @kidxin! Thank you, I've reached out to Extreme Powerhouse for support and they already responded that they'll pass along to CG Precision for resolution. I'll probably grab an SST controller next.

You were right, it's completely dead now. I've ordered the SST controller and it's enroute from Germany. I reached out to XPH who were super quick to respond and are helpful but unfortunately all I've got from CG is an RMA number to reference and to ship the unit back at my cost so they can assess and repair or replace. I really thought after all the issues I've read on these forums that they would have figured out the design or manufacturing improvements needed for this controller to last beyond a few months in an automotive application when I bought it in Feb 2023.

My question is, should I go through the return process (about $35 to ship) or cut my losses at this point given CG seems to be continuously putting out a very low quality product? I paid $237 USD plus an insane $111 cad in Fedex fees 🤨

Some updates on the controller failure...

The VSC controller itself seems fine. While the nuts and bolts on the exterior have rusted, the inside was dry with no signs of water penetration. CG did a good job of sealing the plastic halves with black epoxy and the wire harness entry point with silicone. The circuit board and components looked bone dry and clean.

The connectors were wet inside. Not sure what happened there. I know they were seated fully and engaged. For the original installation, I used the grease that came with the VSC. On subsequent removals and reinstall, I used Permatex dielectric grease around the perimeter of the connector gasket. The only way for water to get in would be if the seal degrades with each insertion cycle or if the VSC connectors are sub grade quality.

In any case, back to OEM for now, waiting for the SST. I cleaned each connector with a towel and IPA and brush and then dried them with a warm hot air gun. There were 3 errors stored in the digital motor electronics module related to actuator function and a short to ground which makes sense. Cleared errors and everything seems to be functioning again.

Anyways, hope this helps someone in the future and also gives some confidence back to the VSC housing design!

Since this thread got revived does anyone want to buy a lightly used one? I bought it off a member here that had it on for a few months and sold their car. I don't think I will ever get around to installing it as I am happy with my AA single mid and stock valve control.

I received the SST controller and installed it last night. The perceived quality is definitely impressive, time will tell if it lasts much longer than the VSC. Love the 4 modes, and the ability to program last mode memory or force a startup mode. Homelink works and confirmed there are no persistent error codes in the Digital Motor Controller unlike the VSC unit even when it worked as intended. This way, I wouldn't be unplugging anymore for service visits.

You had to unplug for service visits? I don’t think they would care about the controller. Also issue with homelink sometimes it stops working and you have to recode it again. Happened to me last week.

Reverting to stock was recommended by the service manager when we went out for a test drive to replicate rattles. He picked up on the different tone of my unlock beep lol. He was nice about it but said it's best to revert all settings to stock to avoid issue with warranty. I've only done modifications to anti dazzle, speed limit anticipation, touch controller etc but a modification is a modification and I don't want to assume that everything outside of engine modification is okay. That's just my personal choice and it's easy enough to flash all modules to stock and back with Protool.

Coincidently, I removed the VSC before my visit for the rattle and it turned out to be a loose exhaust flap on the right muffler. I'm pretty sure they would have questioned the error that is stored in the digital motor control module plus the fact that the VSC was there. The full rear exhaust was replaced.

Re. Homelink, I've noticed intermittent issues too and attributed it to the fact that I've tucked the controller into the heat shield and it may be blocking the signal. I think the homelink transmitter is in the front grill or bumper? I will clear and program again to see if that helps.

One tip is to program the Homelink buttons using the SST remote at the start of installation before the SST controller is hooked up. The long presses required in the programming phase can unintentionally put the controller into various behaviour modes like memory for last mode or forced start on a specific mode. No biggie though to reprogram the controller. Make sure to use the SST remote and stand behind the car to listen for programming confirmation (the flaps open and close once or twice).

But that’s the smart thing to do. I’m just too lazy to remove for service so that’s on me hahaha. But yes I don’t know the SST memeory function it didn’t come with a manual I just installed it.

Haha. It was my previous one. In hindsight, I should've kept it. I'm coming back to BMW lol. Probably going SST route this time due to the longer cabling since I'll be in a much lower vehicle (G8x).
