Current tuning options for the 30i

I just wanted to check out and compare (with prices) the tuning options for the X3 30i. I see a lot of threads for the 40i and a few older ones for the smaller motor. If we can get a bit of a discussion with the current options with pros and cons, that would be very helpful. Here are the current players that I know of:

1. Dinantronics: $899
- comes with factory warranty and it's going to get you to about 329Hp and 325Tq

2. Racechip $499
- Advertises 51Hp increase and 58Tq increase.
- has 7 maps; not sure what each of then does and which ones are actually good to daily drive

3. BMP flash tune
- price unknown
- I've seen recent reviews claiming that it's very smooth and well sorted.

4. Berger tuning
- is this the JB4? I'm not sure about the details...

Bonus question:
My car is brand spanking new. I'm going to break it in as per manufacturer's recommendations. I'm leasing this car and I want it to be good for the next customer. I'm sure that the tune will put stress on it, but at least I want to be civil with the car while I own it.

Considering how close you are to NJ, codemycar.com is a no-brainer. Okee drove up to flash-tune some cars in my area (Boston) this past winter and I am very satisfied with the performance gains. RaceChip GTS unit was good while I had it - more noticeable boost between 2-3k RPM than the codemycar flash, but spikey boost hitting 4th gear and not as much power overall.

That's very cool. They advertise 67hp and 102tq increase. Would you disclose the cost?

I’d be careful about these types of mods on a leased car. A guy in the UK went to the extreme and posted in on YouTube and BMW took back the car.

Just my opinion. I’ve never done any engine mods.

The best tuning option for the 30i is to trade it in for an M40i

BM3 tune is "coming soon" and the results the beta tests have been posting is impressive. Likely $600.

Those are good numbers especially for $600. The other two companies are $899 and $999.

I have the Burger Motorsports JB+ installed on my 230i ( same series engine) and it gives a great little bump it power. It is very noticeable. I haven't tried it yet in my x3 but I'm not really tempted to either. Anyway, great price and dead simple one-plug installation.

Yeah, I'm running bm3 on my 335 and it's a screamer. Not massive top end numbers, only about 20 hp increase, but the torque curve moves way left. 60hp and 90tq increases at lower rpm where people do most of their driving.

So yes, this is another option. Comes with warranty and is about as expensive as the flash tunes available. It's complete with the wiring harness and everything. Did you install it or have the dealer do it? They claim some good numbers for it.

Pretty sure it’s warrantied either way, they’ll go through everything with you if needed (Dinan). I’ve been told by a local dealer it’s fine to install yourself. Probably better if you buy from them though. It only plugs into two sensors, not even the ecu

I have the Dinantronics on my 30i.
It is the more conservative of all and you will have peace of mind.

Oh, sorry - missed this. Think he normally charges 9 bills and I booked with the Black Friday discount so was closer to 7. It really doesn't feel like 100 extra lb/ft of torque, but it's definitely a whole lot faster.

Just placed the order for the BPM Tune. Very stoked! Car barely has 400 miles but I'll wait until I break it in before I install it.

I installed the BPM Tune today and it really woke the car up in a big way. It's really gets up and goes just around town. I haven't been able really get on her. I feel like the engine finally matches the suspension. Comfort mode is plenty powerful for the simple puttering around that I'm doing. Next has refill, I'll see how much gas mileage I can get out of the car. This tank, however, is for some fun.
