Morning everyone,
Ive just hit 4000 miles in my October 2018 M40i, the top score was 35 mpg back in Nov, my average is about 27 mpg. I also tow a caravan of around 1500kg, I thought this is going to be awful, you know about 10 mpg, however I've driven about 1200 miles and the average is 20 mpg. Which is better than my sons average in his Range Rover Vogue. I only got 28 mpg in my diesel Volvo and that was really boring. |

I have no idea about the mpg values but I'm averaging 12.2l/100km since I got my m40i about 10 months ago. I drive a lot of very heavy city driving where I get on average 15l/100km.
I'm currently trying to have an experiment and see how much the different driving modes affect. So far it honeslty doesn't seem to make a huge difference. What does make a big difference though is how often you floor it. |

My lifetime average is 24 MPG after 7700 miles.
PS: I had to remind myself the difference between US mpg and UK mpg. This might be a good fresher for others as well: https://www.calculateme.com/gas-mile...-mpg-to-us-mpg |

I track mileage, etc. fanatically ... since delivery on Feb 26th, I've covered 3116 miles (17 fill-ups). Best mileage (highway) was 28.4 mpg. My last tank full - all in and around town was 18.3, and my combined average mileage is 21.8.

I have concluded that none of the driving modes make a difference in consumption. It would appear I need to go for hypnosis to get me to be softer with my right leaded right foot and not be triggered by any other vehicle that is more than an inch ahead of me.
so that is that. |

26MPG average here after about 18k miles. Driven exclusively in Sport Individual with Sport+ engine and Sport transmission. Also tuned with BM3 ST1 since it's release.
A little bit better than the 335 it replaced. Can't complain with that. |

In UK, half commuting only 4 miles each way, rest 30 miles each way once a week on average to friends ... giving me 23.6mpg after 3K miles ... happy as I didn't expect miracles - especially in town.
FWIW my M240i convertible did low 20's (22mpg average) for the same journeys until about 8K miles then suddenly upped to 27-28mpg. I am hoping this one does the same ! |
