Found these vids on the facetubes. Thought I'd throw this up.

Some 3rd person views and raw sounds of an X3MC from a test drive.

Thanks to whoever filmed this.

Well that's on whoever was doing the driving lol.

I'm just trying to get more insight on the car.

I definitely won't be replicating their test drive when I get my turn.

Cars with bigger turbos will have more perceived lag than cars with smaller turbos like most every day cars have. That tuning gives the car more linear power up top. That's what you want in a real performance car as it will be more satisfying to rev it out.

Commuter cars typically will have a lot of torque down low and drop off precipitously by redline which makes them feel anemic when you really wring them out.

Without some type of mild hybrid or electric turbo technology, there's no way to get around those aspects of turbos.
I had the same experience with my test drive, and when I drove the M3 pre and post- break in mode. BMW electronically limits the throttle input and rev limit the first 2000 miles or so, until the first break in service (my experience was 2500 miles). This is well known and well documented in the M3 forums, and its not unreasonable to assume the same thing was applied to the X3 Ms.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump on some sort of engineering deficiency with the vehicle.

That is not true. Had multiple m cars in us and euro delivery. No power limit. Tracked all my m cars before 1200 miles oil change

No power limitations what so ever

Crazy.

I was thinking - they are trying to buy more time to coincide with July/August 2020 year changeover and get the new tech installed.

But it looks like the x3 M is going to be behind the regular x3 in technology - go figure.

And why June 17? also no 2020 x3 price guide either. (all other models are out)
No, the cars built in April/May were for car shows and demo models, those had the M Seat Belts. There were no customer cars built in those months. Because of the belt shortage, my order sat without a production date until the belts were removed and then it processed through the system and got a July production date. Any cars being made between now and maybe Aug/Sep will not get the M belts.
No M belts on an M car. That's scandalous.

That would bug me every time I drove it.

Is the M Town Tour event something where you take the car out on the road or is it in a closed circuit in their parking lot (where you can experience some "M" driving)? I signed up for it but not sure how wild I'd get with an M850i if I'm on the 35 mph roads around my dealership lol

On the main road. They have a route planned in Nav.

I used to complain that the F80 didn’t have any steering feel but guess what car I drive now - an F80. It’s wonderful. I focused on one thing that was worse than before instead on 100 things that are improved. Including handling and fun overall.

Every iteration there will be those that are disappointed. Go drive the competition. GLC AMG 63 is boring and still sold with last gen infotainment. Alfa is a reliability nightmare and nowhere near as nice inside.

M40i is one of my favorite current BMWs. Perfect mix of practicality, comfort and amazing fun. X3M should take that and dial it to a more focused sporty experience. Just more fun. It’s not supposed to be a competitive race car. It’s supposed to bring most smiles per mile in a compact SUV and this puppy will deliver.
GLC63 AMG is boring??!? The car has a V8 and is a couple hundred pounds lighter that the X3M doesn't it?

GLC63 AMG was boring to me when I drove it. V8 was too quiet. Car was too comfortable and disconnected feeling.

I just got back from a test drive in the X3M Competition on the BMW M town tour here in DFW. Was pretty excited for the X3M as my 2016 F80 is going to be replaced sometime in the near future. They let me take the car by myself on a 4 mile loop mixed highway and city. The car was the Donnington grey with yellow/orange inserts, pretty sure it's the same car in the video, it had around 5100 miles on it now.

I did a few pulls from various speeds and pretty disappointed with the S58 motor. It just didn't feel like a 503 hp, not sure if it was the weight of the SUV or what but it felt slower than a stock F80 non ZCP.

On the plus side the interior was really nice compared to F8x and the transmission was really good with lightning fast upshifts. The ride was pretty compliant and the steering feel was not bad for a SUV, pretty direct. I just can't see dropping 80K+ if I didn't love the engine. Hopefully it feels better in the upcoming G8x M3/M4.

Not sure Cosmos what you were experiencing but most everyone else seems very impressed with its performance for what it is. I know I am jaded having driving 600+ hp cars for the past several years (M6 full mods 720hp, X5M full mods 725hp, Alpina B7 607 hp to name a few) and I am curious as well. Mine will be in the dealership in about a week and a half so I will definitely post.

I guess "for what it is" being a 4,600 pound SUV it's not bad but just didn't feel fast or push me back in the seat for a 503 hp vehicle. It felt considerably slower than my stage 1 tune F80 M3 and even my stock M2C. If you didn't tell me I would have guessed it's a 400 hp vehicle by the seat of the pants.
