"But what can it do that the phone app can't?" in that case why are you even bothering with the app..the BMW connected website is miles better and provides a much better experience with more detailed information. and it does everything the "app" does? why have you even bothered to download the app?! |

Also saw that both CarPlay and Connected+ last for one year only... No information provided on how much they charge to renew any of these services : |

I honestly didn’t think anyone was simple enough to think that the display “KEY” (the operative word) didn’t start the car... |

That’s not the display key starting the car, it’s the stop/start button starting the car, in exactly the same way as the normal key! It’s no benefit whatsoever compared to the app and normal key.

For normal people you have two separate devices either way, but the display key is much larger and needs frequent charging. |

Biggest difference - with the app you cannot do any action with the car without connection to internet unlike the key. minor difference - you see more data in the app than on the key.

The main thing I use the app for, both on my current X3 and since 2012 on my old X5 is to search and send destinations to the car, I don't have it but I was under the impression you can't do that with the display key? which to me makes the app far more useful

Yes, you're right, you cannot do that with the key. But to do that, you also need an Internet connection, right?

agreed, but I still think thats the biggest difference - if you're looking for one.

BMW seemed to develop display key in the first place for the remote parking feature for the 7, you can also get it for the 5 and 6GT which is a major point of difference for those models as you can't do that with the app but they missed that feature out for the X3, which is a shame, although probably a fairly pointless feature at the end of the day? |

Still, Tesla managed to put that feature on phone, so surely BMW could as well! |

I can fight over the argument about the internet being in every phone, but that's not the point here
I think remote parking is just a feature you can show to your friends, but would actually never use it. Can't think of any situation, where it could be handy for me. No.. no sir... not one

I have the display key, it came as part of a package. I also have the ‘Connected’ app on my phone but the key is quicker than the app to display info. If you take the car on a ferry you can also quickly confirm, visually, that you’ve disabled the tilt sensor.

I don't get all the hate for display key, mostly by people that do not have it ;-)
