Custom Order - wrong Trim!

I just picked up my custom order X3 M40i. I didn't notice when I collected the car (don't ask how) but the car has aluminum trim when my order was aluminum rhombicle. I check the order they had me sign and it has the rhombicle on it. Can these trims be changed by the dealer?

It's a cost prohibitive matter to switch post delivery. Given your order sheet says the rhombicle trim, I'd take it back and discuss your options with them.

Have the dealer change it.

The messed up the trim on my X5 but it looked nice so I kept it.

It's as if there is no quality check going on at the SC plant.

You paid for a certain trim. The seller did not deliver what you ordered. You are certainly entitled to what you ordered, and some concession for value added for the mistake of the seller. I wish you well.

It shows Aluminum. It seems the dealer messed up when placing the order.

Do you like the aluminum?
Or rather have the rhombicle?

Because if you don;t like the aluminum, you need to confront them with this error and state they need to fix it. You've got the signed order, right?

If you also like the Aluminum, confront the dealer with the error...
Tell them that you can understand it would be difficult to change this.. But are willing to discuss another solution or incentive to ease the pain

As it was the dealers who messed up they should definitely fix the problem for you.

I definitely wouldn't keep the aluminium trim, I made that mistake on my F30 and it showed every scratch and dent, it looked old after a few months!

Aluminum is a really nice trim, but if you don't like it talk to the dealer

It's a personal choice of course, but have you seen Rhombicle in person? The standard aluminum looks much better to me. We had Rhombicle spec'd on ours until we saw it in person then immediately changed our order. Patterns like diamonds, squares, circles, etc. look out of place in car trim to me, unlike wood grain or carbon fiber weave. We had the same aluminum trim on our F30 and had no issues with scratching or wear. But if Rhombicle is what your heart desires, I'd make my way back to the dealer and start working on getting it replaced or some cash in hand.

Maybe something changed in the making process, but mine aluminium trim it exactly the same after 8 months as it was the first day. Maybe the time will come one day., but so far all good.

You must be very careful, and not have kids or dogs!

Mistakes like this one is the very reason I ask for an order confirmation once I'be placed my order.

I also ask for the VIN as soon as the car has gone into production so that I can check that all options I want will be on the car.

I have rhombical. I’d rather have aluminum. Once rhombical starts taking wear and tear it looks like shit IMO.

Every BMW I owned or leased has been a special order and I have always obtained a Vehicle Inquiry report which shows the production number with all the packages and options, listed with the codes. Without that you have no way of knowing that the dealer did not screw up.

Well, the dealer said they couldn't change the trim. They offered $500 worth of accessories from the store which I accepted - the aluminum is growing on me.

I think you made a good choice. I looked pretty hard at both trims and settled on the plain aluminum. The other trim looked way too busy for me. Didn't like it at all when seeing it in person.

if you didn't read already,.I'm suggesting to buy a hard key fob cover. It should protect from accidental button press (against trunk opening for example).
