Still getting used to the X5MC,it's been a few months since I've been behind the wheel of anything so I'm just taking it slow and getting acclimated. iDrive 8 has me overwhelmed as I'm not very tech-savvy. The 5 feels much bigger on the road than the X3 but it's so smooth going down the road
Sorry relatively new to this site...congrats on kicking cancer. I hate that word for many a personal reason. Glad you are in remission! That's a heck of a beat cancer gift and a wonderful ride and wife!

Hey,thank you for the kind words I appreciate it from you and everyone else who takes a moment to comment. I'm sorry you're familiar with the cancer situation it really takes it's toll on all family/friends involved. They say it takes a village...
Dealing with a few other issues but the main issue has been addressed and treated.

I purposely didn't post a pic due to this being your thread&don't wanna hijack it anymore than I already did

We couldn't really decide, os it's both for us!

We really do like both, but I wanted the M, and she didn't need/want a 600HP monster (or the 400HP+ that is a GTS) and we didn't want to pay $100k+ for the Macan GTS either, so the base it is...
It's a great SUV also!!

We're lucky to have to make such "choices" right?

Thank you brother

Let me walk-back what I posted above, what I meant to say was the X3MC is my favorite out of all the cars I've had. I 100% miss it but it was time to move ahead. The X5MC has yet to prove itself as of yet,but we shall see

It's certainly an awesome looking vehicle, in the perfect color.
Love the fender flairs, had those on my 4.8 E70, it just makes it look so wide and aggressive...

I'm sure you'll love it!!

I was original owner of ‘02 E46 M3 SMGII. Then ‘11 E90 M3 DCT, now ‘23 X3MC. The E46 was by far the harshest suspension of the three, it was a spine rattler on crappy roads. The people/reviews complaining about X3M harsh rides are crazy, they either never owned a true M, or shouldn’t be in one to begin with.

I would get the Comp version for sure, and compared to the E46, you’ll be riding on clouds lol.

This suspension issue is way overblown. In fact, 90% of the people who are winning about it usually have no true reference point. Try riding in a modern day muscle car for a few hours or a different M car built 10-15 years ago. Then come back & "try" to tell others the suspension is overly harsh & the seats aren't cushy enough. LOL

That's the blessing & a curse part about the internet. It makes many people become hypochondriacs overnight, thinking things are much worse than they really are. With the right tires, in the right sizes & inflated to the right pressures, you have nothing to worry about. And all the LCI models have softer springs. So BMW heard about some "overly sensitive" enthusiasts & made the ride quality a little more compliant.

Life short & therefore only an M car will do for me. On the street the X3 M40i is pretty snappy & very reliable while being a touch less thirsty. But if you enjoy WOT often & sporty driving on nice open roads, the S58 is king. The M Motor is one of the last great ICE engines ever made. Like a B58 on a mild dose of factory approved steroids with robust track capabilities. You can't loose either way & hope we've helped with your decision. I'll take a slightly more taught demeanor any day of the week if there's a S58 powering that chassis. Ya, it's that good.

Very over blown to me, not a concern at all. It's an SUV built with M intention so i'm not sure how else they could have done it. It's very tolerable and in my opinion fine. I do however agree with the few that mentioned the wandering on the highway, that's a thing.

Yeah I had someone on reddit asking the same question as OP, and one person responded saying they test drove a 2020 and that the ride was miserable. They must be used to driving a Lincoln Town Car.

Highly subjective. In the last 5 years I’ve had 340s, x3 M40s, latest gen M3 and currently and currently a 23 X3M and 24 X5M. The X3M has the harshest ride of all the cars I’ve had but it doesn’t bother me. When I say harsh I mean you jump out of the seat on small road imperfections. Now my X5M rides much smoother but some say it’s too harsh for them as well so I’d drive before you decide.

HELL YEAH!!!!! Glad to hear!! Suck it cancer!

To add to the thread, I don't find the suspension too bad personally. There are some times where it kind of jars you out of the seat (big bumps, holes, even taking them slowly). But IMHO it's par for course on the vehicle.

As some said before, it really depends on the roads you drive on. The suspension is firm on the X3M as this is a performance vehicle SAV. The X3M is characterful out of the box sound wise and the power is borderline crazy for an suv but I love that.. "where too much is just right!"

The X3 m40i is surprisingly good and it might suit many people as it can handle well and has good power. I drove one at the M driving experience day when I purchased my x3m and was quite surprised at how much speed I could carry through the corners. It's amazing what bmw has done with it.

I think you just have to try both before making a decision. In my case, my wife and I wanted the X3M no compromise.

Agreed! Having my 04 E46 M3 and in Los Angeles pot-holed roads and now in NJ's roads...nothing IMO will be harsher LOL.

Great analyses and summation here. I kept wavering between the M40 and M, but I know my gut/heart would regret going the M40 route down the line.

Its overblown if you don't ride in the backseats.

I experienced having two adult women and a 6 year old for an extended period in the back of my X3M and I was definitely notified that they were uncomfortable

Took a shorter(75min) highway trip over the weekend for the first time. The Wife shockingly said the rear seats were not that uncomfortable.

Her complaint was the noise level. My X has the OE Sport Contact 6s with 6/32 tread. I figure if I get some better quality tires with more tread it'd solve that complaint.
