Why should I buy an BMW 3series over Benz CKompressor?

I have to admit, I thought the Mercedes Benz C Kompressor was the best thing since, well, ballpoint pens. It's a very attractive automobile and the price was very reasonable. And the white kompressors are just beautiful. At the time when the new C kompressors arrived BMW still only had the previous 3 series to compare with it. But now the new 3 series are quickly and constantly changing my mind about purchasing or leasing a Kompressor. I haven't driven a 3 series as of yet, but I have driven the kompressor. So before I go drive the 3 series I want to hear from you all as to why I should look into BMW's latest work-of-art.

If you have to ask...

Actually, the answer is in the drive.

...but you are from BH... hmm....

Do you place performance over luxury? Go Bimmer.

The ride and drive is far superior in the 3 series, especially if you go with the sports pkg. I test drove the MB one time and that was enough for me, no comparison what-so-ever. I am not being a MB hater in fact my mother owns a clk 320, but truth is truth!!!

I was in the same boat a few months ago and here are my thoughts:

I think the c230 has a nicer interior and you get more things standard (alarm, semi-powered seats, and sport package). But the drive is definitely nicer on the 3 and since it's a newer design, your car will seem newer, longer.

I'm sure once you drive the new 3, you'll discover the same things.

I had a 2002 C class Kompressor, then a 2003 Passat. When I got the itch again I wanted to go back to more "stuff" and started test driving the C class sedans again. I drove the C230 and C240 with various packages and configurations. I was really annoyed that a lot of the little "extras" that I expect in this class of car were not available ala carte on the MB or simply non-existant. I was also pissed that it would cost me another $1,000 or more to re-enable my MB cell phone for a new car.

The dealership is MB on one side and BMW on the other... so while waiting for things, I wandered over to the other side and saw the (at that time still not on the market) E90. This was the beginning of May. Took one for a drive and that was it - the fish hook was firmly lodged in my lip. My exact words when I got out of car were "OK, now I get it", I had never driven a BMW before.

What sealed it for me was with the Premium Package you get all the goodies and creature comforts. The C230k sedan is okay... but trust me - drive an E90 and the MB starts to feel like a pickup truck. I now have an E90 and an E91... so I think I'm a convert.

Honestly, just go take a test drive, and you will answer your own question. That's all it took me and I bet most other people had the same experience.

It's the driving experience. If you are into it, you will defginitely get the 330i sports. Luxurious ride quality, go with MB.

But most of us here wants the ultimate driving experience...to be one with the road, that's why we bought the new e90's.

Seriously, why do you need us to convince you why you should go look at BMW? You already said the new 3 series is changing your mind so your best course of action is to go drive one.

I personally didn't even look at the C-Class Mercedes because I don't like the look of them, or the image that Mercedes projects.

But, to each their own... even if you like them equally I'd go with the BMW because it's a new model. Residual will be better by probably 4-5% if you're leasing as well.

Oh, just to add since you haven't driven the BMW yet...

I looked at, reasearched and drove all of the other cars I was considering before the BMW. Audi A3, Saab 93, Acura TSX/TL. I drove the BMW on a Friday afternoon and after hearing the engine, and feeling the way it drived/handled I knew without question it was the car for me. I did the test drive on a Friday afternoon, slept on it over the weekend and did the deal on Monday. I have absolutely no regrets. You must drive this car to fully appreciate it.

I was looking at the c230 coupe prior to the bmw. The bmw motor is much smoother than the mb.
The mb has a softer ride, but did not feel as solid as the bmw.

I "needed" a stick shift car, and GFL trying to get a stick shift in a mb.

I can answer your question....I had a 2005 C230K with alot of options. Had it for 9 months with 7000 miles....Sold it and got a E90.

oh...the 2006 are not Kompressors anymore...they're V6
You could prbly get a brand new 2005 I4 Kompressor for $32000 with alot of options so I guess it would be a good buy.

I believe the next C-Class is due for the 2007 model year. You buy now...the car will be obsolete in a year or maybe less than a year.

if you have not taken some of the other members' advice to go test drive the new 3 series, here is something else to consider: 3 serries is more roomier, MB not ranked very high in customer satifaction, and e series are MOD friendlier.

i drove an 05 C-class the other day, i forgot what model it was though, it was a loaner for my friends mom. anyway, the interior is not shabby but the exterior looks i must say that the E90 is more "mean" and "smooth". the biggest differance is in the drive. im not an enthusiast and i was still able to tell a differance. test drive an E90 and feel it for yourself.

My wife said the C-class looks so small from a distance. And the design is not as impressive as E90. :-)

Others have pointed out that the current C-class is at the end of its cycle. The replacement car will be a much more baroque looking sedan. Having driven both BMWs and Mercedes, there is no comparison in the fun to drive quotient. If you are looking for a soft, luxo-boat ride, go for the MB. If you really enjoy DRIVING, the choice should be obvious.
If you need a clincher, check out Consumers Reports for brand reliability; you will find that MB is near the very bottom of all makes.

Lot's of excellent subjective advice and comentary above. I would sumarize by stating that these are both nice machines but very, very different. Which is better for me might not right for you. I suggest that do drive both cars over the same course and consider how the car will be used. Try to make an objective decision based on the drive and the intended usage. This should be relatively easy since both car lines have quite a bit of panache.

test drive the e90 and then judge for yourself and youll see why people are changing to bmw
the bmw looks more modern than the merc and give better performance in terms of handling etc
