Cargo Mat

Thought some of you may want to see pics of the BMW X3 cargo mat for the G01... just received. Decent (not perfect) fit, seems well made.

Looks good.

I can't seem to find it online... do you mind sharing what you paid for it?

I also just received the same. I purchased from a PA dealer on eBay for about $140. It is better made than I thought, although the velcro circles on the bottom don't seem to grab the floor carpet.

Negotiated in my deal for the dealership to pay for it. It was shipped from CA. WeatherTech quality.

Agree, the Velcro circles on back are not sufficient.

No spare. 21" Runflats.

I never used them but I bet some that use the side rails for tying things down won't like that cargo mat since it covers the rails.

Any idea if this mat would be comfortable for a dog? I am planning on putting something on top of it - but just curious if the surface of this mat would work for a dog.

Thanks

I'm wondering if and when a mat will be available for those of us with the spare tire...

What do you mean. I tried out this mat at delivery and didn't like the raised floor plus raised liner .

It's the same mat

Exactly! It make no sense to have this kind of mat with rails.

I assumed there would be a different mat for the raised floor since the raised floor is shaped differently near the lip of the loading space compared to the regular flat floor.

It looks like it's raised or am I seeing things?

It isn't raised, Zirenz2006, but you aren't seeing things - they raised the outer edges (smart in case liquids are present they will be held inwards) and also, I suspect, because they had to allow for the rail adjusters which are raised up at least 3/4". I've attached an image I made showing the edge of the underside I was trying to allow for when designing the side attachment points, and you can see the raised exterior concavity. It then dives back down to floor level for maximal hold. Given it's slippery plastic nature beneath they did add the velcro-like grabbers in a few spots.

I am surprised to see it covers everything in the cargo area, I had expected them to integrate the handle for the cover and the sliding rails as opposed to just hiding them.

I do hope Weathertech does something different.

I'd be surprised if they do that, mattesonb. I've spent some years trying to figure out how to carry the heavy dirty loads I run in our X3s, and the ultimate key is to have everything covered. Which is why I keep pushing for high-edged heavy duty trays as well. It is rare I've had to get into the sub-flooring, but if I need to I just lift the tray out and replace when finished.

BMW's problem with the X3's cargo area arose back in the day when they decided to place the track on the floor of the cargo area. I understand the Physics involved and they may have better support there, but then the tie-downs become worthless for anyone using a cargo mat (which most folks with an SAV will)... And if you look at their marketing images of the track luggage supports it confirms this view, that they really haven't fully anticipated what the SAV community needs in the cargo area. A pristine carpeted area with a fine item of luggage?

I would hope Mnfrs take a serious look at the cargo hold in their SAV models. IMHO at least, these should not be viewed as just a trunk as one has in a 750 Li but elongated and raised with a tailgate. We use our SAVs in a completely different fashion, so I suspect as they continue to refine the attributes of this genre they will take this into consideration.

That absolutely makes sense, I guess it does boil down to why have the side rails.

I may also be in the minority as I use the storage underneath frequently so my needs would differ.

I'm more looking for day to day protection and some spill prevention on snowboard trips so a full coverage mat with a large lip is more overkill in my situation.

bump.

anyone have/find a cargo mat that keeps the tether points/rails exposed as well as the cargo floor handle? nothing heavy duty, but something at least durable enough to protect the carpeting.

EDIT: has anyone tried these custom mats from weathertech? looks like I could cut to fit and cut holes too..might look a little cheap though unless done with a nice, patient cut.

okay, I just got off the phone with weathertech. for anyone who cares:

the customer service agent suggested to wait another 6-8 weeks for when they release their new cargo mat for our x3's. I asked about the cargo rail and the floor handle. he said in his notes it looks like two options will be available, one where you can trim to expose the rails and one where trimming is not needed but covers up the rails. he mentioned that the handle for the cargo floor will be covered up by both designs but they are going to put guidance for how/where to trim the floor mat to expose the handle if you want that.

will be waiting for this design to come out.

This isn't a mat, it's a liner, but for those that want to preserve access to the rails and storage, canvasback just a week or so ago came out with: https://www.canvasback.com/index.php...ers-14506.html

This will be my I think 4th canvasback liner I've installed, still ~ 3 weeks away for me so I can't can't comment directly yet on this particular one, but we've had great luck before with these. I'll try to remember to post first hand experience on it.

In addition to window tints the cargo liner is the first thing I always add.
