JB4 on x3 m40i - update!!!@ 400hp+ monster

I just got an answer from Burger and from my goto bmw aftermarket shop Vag in laval

Both believe the JB4 will work on the new M40i

So getting this done in 2 weeks when my car arrives

http://www.burgertuning.com/B58_JB4_...nce_tuner.html

UPDATE !!!!!

installation is done. my local shop says it was just like any jb4 on a b58 engine .

my ass dyno tells me it's about 400 to 420hp and wow it moves !!!

you'll need the Bluetooth connector since the dash controls don't work with a digital dash
alsp get the 50$ steel case. really protects the chip

Even though the B58 in the M40i is rated at 355HP, I think this number is conservative and is actually higher. Could be looking at close to 420HP. Nice!

Wow, its already fast , I cant wait to see the times with an extra 60hp

your going to have to spend a lot of money at a competitor to get the same speed

Since the B58 engine in the M40i is already boosted a little higher than in other G platform cars I'm not sure if JB4 will add the same increment of 60hp.

And if it will what the impact is going to be on long term reliability of the engine.

I've never had JB4 in my BMW's. I had Dinan Stage 1 in my prior E92. But you have to love the cost of Burger products and I've not read of anyone that has ever had a problem. I have an F32 435i. Seems everyone has JB4 and again, I don't hear any complaints. As long as it is easy to remove before a dealer visit (and they say it is), it is the way to go in my opinion.

Yes I had Dinan on my F10 535 as well.

In your case N54 motor was a little more robust than N55.
And in case of the 2016 model it's too early to tell on long term implications.
Certainly sounds very attractive.

I remember way back in 2006-7 when Terry Burger was trying to convince everyone that the juice box was a real product. I did buy one of the early ones for my 335xi and it did seem to work. I think I still have it somewhere.

I'm with the others, where this variant of B58 is already of the higher power variety I'm skeptical about how significant the gains would be, and/or if there are any tradeoffs.

I agree, I'd like to see some numbers with this exact car, also my car's not a lease so I'm deathly afraid of messing with it

Awesome. How easy is it to remove for dealer visits?

you just turn off the chip using the iPhone app. unless they are digging real deep they won't find it

also the dealers I've dealt with don't care about it even if they do find it

Dinan also has the Elite out for the B58 with MPPK, I'd imagine the M40i is using basically the same tune. You can see their baseline numbers were 378/395 and their tuned numbers are 426/463. You'd think the JB4 would probably be pretty comparable.

Very good news. I haven't had a JB4 and have typically stuck with flash tuning but know many people with great results using them on different models.

Really interested to see any dyno results if you get the chance.

Did you purchase the JB4 from Burger and a local shop was willing to install it? Or did you purchase it from the local shop and they installed it?

Around here, I'd have to find a shop willing to install it. I haven't a clue who would do it.

I don't think I will Dyno, too expensive and ultimately I can tell the power is now where I want it to be just by my ass dyno

For the purchase and install
I have a shop in Montreal that does a lot of tuning, VAG motorsports , they ordered, installed and I was out of the shop in 40 minutes.

In CND it cost me 1100$ but that includes , jb4, metal case plus install time

Of note, the tunes always supersede a MPPK Bmw tune. So the ceiling will always be the same. I think the M40 is likely tuned more aggressively than 355hp already, so the gains won't be as massive.

I had a JB4 on a 435, it worked fine and is a great deal. But this time I'm gonna do Dinan to get a more stock-like response and have the warranty fallback.

It was definitely that way on the N54 and N55, I've had a PPK N54 and MPPK N55 and if you wanted to take them further with anything aftermarket you wasted your money with the BMW tune.

But, at least looking at what Dinan did with the B58, the MPPK gets tuned to 426/463 and the standard only gets to 412/438. So something is different, especially since they sell two specific tunes.

With the higher spec Dinan doesn't it
Also require the big turbo, Downpipe etc?
