I’d be more concerned about the look, they’re almost a full inch smaller in diameter and the tires may look noticeably small. Have you looked at maybe 235/50? Those will be closer, should still fit the bead, and narrower tires are better for snow anyway.

Yes,

Both 235/50 and 225/55 are better alternate sizes to look at, both of which have a decent selection of winter tires.

If anything, it's going to be the rim that's hard to find. Unless you guys want to spend $500 a rim from BMW, finding a 19x7.5J or 19x8J rim for a reasonable price seems to be pretty hard.

For anyone who missed it, you can also go to the official BMW USA accessory site and they've got some winter set options. Looks like you can get a decent wheel and tire set for under $2k with free shipping. Descriptions say they come pre installed and balanced so you can just bolt them on.

Apparently these things can't get shipped. Even if they could I don't think I can take advantage of it since I'm in Canada..

I think the Canada website has its own options.

If I select 'customer pickup' I can choose the local dealer, I presume they'll ship there.

Do you have a US address you can ship to near the border. You might pay duty coming back but overall it's cheaper than the dealer quote in Canada unless you negotiate on price.

Great find. Very reasonable options.
I like that 18s can go on there for nasty winter potholes.

I will ask for a quote tomorrow. Maybe they will be on sale during Black Friday

X3 will start production Wednesday. If it doesn't then it probably won't start until November 29th.

I called and left a v-mail with the Tire Rack contact listed in the E90/F30 forum. I wonder what they will say.

I would not hold my breath on TireRack. They did not have winter solutions for my 335GT for over a year after the car came to market.
The US price is very interesting, I may go for a shopping trip in my GT before the X3 arrives in the new year.

I don't think it will be cheaper than you buy it at local dealer, the custom boarder will charge you a lot of tax especially when the parts is not made within Canada, USA and Mexico. There's link you can estimate your tax online

After reviewing with my husband using tire calculators, we agree and only .9 mph off from the 245/50. So far, looks like the Bridgestone Blizzak WS80. Compares very favorably to the Continental across the board. Since I live in Tahoe, with heavy, slushy, icy snow, it’s probably not a bad idea to have a snow tire that is even better in the snow than the Michelin XI3 I have on my 335GT. Thanks for your insight. I’ll be getting 20” rims for the summer, likely non staggered.

For comparison US Price $2305.88 or $C 2,937.03 BMW Canada price $C 4,176.00
Add duty $290
Add HST to both US purchase $C 3646.54 Canadian purchase $C 4,718.88
Add cost of hotel, meal and gas driving to US dealer $200
Still a savings of $C 872.34

I would rather that be in my pocket than in BMW Canada's

I might just go for a 235/50R19 Pirelli Scopions on this rim.

https://pmctire.com/en/wheels/replik...deport-35.tire

Full set incl TPMS sets me back about CAD$2.2k~

I had Blizzak WS80s on my Audi S4, it’s a good winter tire, at least in the Utah mountains.

Thanks! I will look into them. Do they ship tires mounted on rims?

Yup they do! mounted and balanced too.

The other option would be 1010tires which has a sligihtly smaller range of tires to choose from

(I'm talking from a Canadian perspective btw)

I'm going to replace my Nokian R2's with a new set for my 2012 and reuse my 307 wheels for now. I'm down to 3/32"-6/32" between all the tires. Since I'll be driving from east coast to Utah for the winter I think I'll bite the bullet and put on a new set of R2's. I'm going to keep my 2012 for at least another year while the new 340i gets some potential issues resolved.
Looking at the winter options now for Nokian 19 or 20" R2's there aren't any run flats and I may have to go non RFT. But I have some time to figure that out.

You are going to use your old rims? I think it's a new bolt pattern for the G01 isnt it?
