Even my 335d with winters was a beast, during the beast from the east I got down a lane to a customers house that was about 10" deep and the customer said SUV's had been getting completely stuck on it!

I had Vredestein's best Winters and wheels but they didn't seem to be any better than my All Seasons for 15+ Colorado Winters. I am at 6100' but make trips to Aspen, Breckenridge and Durango each Winter- yet my All Seasons + All Wheel Drive are more than adequate.

It took forever for my shop to get a set of Beyern Ritz wheels in, but they are on the car now with Nokia Hakka R3's on them. I was still nervous about how they might look, but I took it in this morning and am very pleased with how they look on the car. I went with 18's to get the taller sidewall, the better to survive Michigan potholes hopefully. I like the meaty tire look, although the car is slightly more squirrelly on the road because of the sidewalls.

The Beyerns make me wish I had nicer looking powder coated calipers!

Square setup on 2022 X3

My first post here
While I'm patiently waiting for my 2022 M40i to be built and options being deleted left and right, I started looking at winter setup.

I'd like to have a square setup for the winter to be able to rotate tires and get better control from rear wheels in the snow.

My question is, can you put the same factory OEM wheels on the rear axle as you put on the front?
For example, I'm looking to buy four 787 or 699 wheels for the fronts (245/45/20 tires). Will the rear wheels need spacers or will it just fit? Has anyone done it?

Thanks!

When I traded in my 2018 for a 2021, the one available at my dealership had 21" staggered set. I had TWO sets of 19" for my 2018, so had them mount one of my sets, and let them keep the 21" set (saving me about $2k)

My rims are 698M and 647M. Fit just fine-no spacers. Dealer expressed no concerns. I can't see a change in the stance, but haven't measured it.

No spacers if you get G01-compatible wheels from BMW. You can get BMW assembled with the sensor, center cap and the tires balanced :

(you may need to select 2021 because the website isn't updated yet)

A BMW genius will let you know which tires any of these wheels come with.

I'm trying to decide whether to get all-seasons or dedicated snow tires for the winter for M40i and wanted to get some feedback. I've previously owned an S4 which came with Conti all seasons on 235 wide tires and drove 4 winters with it without any major issues - I've never gotten stuck and sliding was well controlled, however as the tires got older sliding/braking got worse.

I know I've heard that snow tires diminish handling and make the car bumpier - I've never owned a set of snow tires and don't know whether it's true.

I live in Michigan and while we get a decent amount of snow here, it's usually cleared quickly and we are back to dry road conditions within 24 hours.

Has anyone living in snowy conditions opted for all-seasons vs snow tires?

Thanks!

I drived over 20 years in Canada. Both A/S and winter tires have improved during that time. There was a time snow tires were like driving on balloons, that won't be the case with something like the LM001 that comes on some BMW assemblies. And although A/S is better these days, you can't beat winter tires on patches of ice that form at intersections for example (4WD does nothing for stopping). Also note there's kind of two categories of winter tires, those for intense snow and/or ice, and the "performance winter" kind that you'll probably end up with on a BMW.

If you can pick when you go out and/or adapt your driving, you can absolutely make A/S work. But if you drive like in Canada, where most people don't even slow down in a big snow storm, you'd kill yourself without snow tires. They consider it a safety necessity. In Michigan, I guess it's a personal choice. But even with good winter driving skills and having moved to New England, I really prefer snow tires for the better capability in bad weather.

Winter tires are also how I get through a lease without getting new stock tires.

I just ordered the BMW factory wheel/winter tire combo. Will install them in a month or so. Hard to find run flat tires with comparable wheel size to the factory summer performance tires.

I went with 18" wheels and tires from TireRack. These wheels,

https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...racite+Painted

And 225/60R-18 PIRELLI WINTER SOTTOZERO 3

I was able to pick up at their place in Delaware saving shipping and taxes, so that was nice.

I think I'll put them on November 1st.
