Scheduled my appointment to have it installed Friday the 18th. I'll let you all know how it goes!

When I looked up dealers in my area it showed actual BMW dealerships.

Is this installed by a BMW dealership?

Yes if they are Dinan certified!

***Note: my DME on my 2020 has had 2 updates due to recall and the advisor told me it has 2021 software on it and may need to be removed and sent to Dinan.

Dinan_Engineering do you know if this is factual on my 2020 build date 07/19?

If the build date is after 6/2020 like yours it will have the updated DME/encryption and therefore would not be flash-able unfortunately.

How about build dates prior to 6/2020 but with recent iStep updates/software?

Is the encryption limit only hardware or can software updates impact it as well?

Ahhh — read that wrong. 7/19 build date is flashable. Needs to be sent in to be unlocked first but it's flashable.

Ok I'll remove it and overnight it to you. What is your standard SLA?

I-step updates have no bearing really (will require bench unlock but still flashable). It's built in updated encryption to the hardware (DME) that changes after 6/20 build dates.

Give the tech sales folks a call at 1-800-341-5480 and they can assist with the process and answer any specific questions you may have.

Thanks. Would like to see other people's experience with dealership installs.

They cannot seem to fix anything so I am concerned about them adding a tune.

Will do. Likely will not send it out for a bit because we have a service appointment coming up

Thanks - I have always been tempted by a tune but scared of warranty issues.

I would like to see a lot of people having success with this before I jump in.

I'm paying the extra $800 to keep the warranty through Dinan. I wouldn't do it any other way

I will go that route as well.

Before I jump in, will have to do research to see how people's claims were handled. I would prefer to be above board with this where the dealership is comfortable with adding the tune and will resolve any issues direct with Dinan.

That's a huge ask for a NY dealer - I'm lucky if they don't scratch it every time I bring it in

Ha, I totally get it! Dinan products always work as advertised. I like how they push the limits but without sacrifice of detrimental tuning. Your dealer should have a Dinan specialist if they are listed on the Dinan site. Call and talk it through with them

Excellent. Will do.

Unfortunately I'm expecting a response of "What's a Dinan?"

In theory they would. New York/New Jersey turnover tends to be higher then most and knowledge doesnt always pass down. =)

I tend to point folks to the independents in North Jersey more often then not just because of this. Usually a more pleasant experience.

I'm confused. So does the dealer have to remove the DME or is this an obdII flash?

DME needs to be removed and sent in for a bench flash.
