Stealing this from another post here but I think it makes a great point. What is BMW doing with the interior?

2020: legacy carryover with idrive 6
2021: new display with partial idrive 7
2022: New center stack with full idrive 7

Will we get new door panels next year? Don't understand these weird piecemeal improvements that are unnecessary.

I like the forged wheels, M display and over the air software updates. I do not understand all the shiny black parts along the back of both. Maybe because they had paint peeling issues in some of the pre LCI?

IMHO, I personally like the pre LCI overall design better. And not because I am butt hurt that they changed it. I am not a big fan of the smiley face front.

With that said, if this was the design when I was looking for an X3M it would not keep me from buying it.

I'm a 2020 owner and I think the LCI is an improvement. I was also a 2018 M2 LCI owner and remember when the M2 Comp was revealed how many didn't like the new styling and made fun of the moustache grille. It always takes some time to get used to changes as today it's a no-brainer that the M2 Comp looks superior to the M2 or M2 LCI. As time goes on the LCI versions always end up being the best looking version. The reality is that BMW already has the money from 2020 and 2021 owners and the LCI is for new owners so it's really immaterial how 2020 and 2021 owners feel about these changes.

This is normal. It's happened with many m cars before. E90 and f80 m3 come to mind immediately, I'm sure there were many others.

I've owned an e46, e92 and an f80 and I don't remember these types of quick changes. Maybe gradually, but certainly not year over year.

Year over year. Both had significant tech changes for like 3 years in a row. Plus lci.

Right, I'm not disputing the tech changes. Very odd though when combined with adding a singular interior component each year. I don't want to derail the thread though, so I digress.

Tech is changing much quicker and manufacturers have the high tech means to make changes faster. In the old days you had a halogen lights, analog gauges, a radio and HVAC not much was going to change mid model outside of some modest styling changes. Now you can update gauges, LCE screens, infotainment, LED lights, etc very quickly. These changes are more pronounced than most LCI but I believe that probably has a lot to do with the X3 now being the bread and butter vehicle for BMW and they need to keep it fresh mid generation as it has a big influence on overall brand sales.

I regret not getting the 2020 when they had the extra 6.5k rebate. I'd totally get the 2020 for the dials alone. Everything about the 2020 is perfect for me. The only part of the lci that is better is the carbon brace and rear design (vertical reflectors) looks more aggressive

No kidding. That's the only really bad part of this LCI to me. There are other elements I could learn to like but those wonky tail lights... gross.

Normal disagreements about visual changes aside, the engine changes are more than welcome.

BMW decision to maintain "four-piston fixed calipers at the front and single-piston floating calipers at the rear" remains puzzling. This vehicle needs better brakes with 6-piston calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers in the rear.

I like X4MC. It's in shopping cart together with other vehicles.
