I'm torn with the new design. Don't mind the rear so much but overall they added more black gloss which they appear to be doing on all the G chassis. Don't love the redesign front. It looks too busy for my personal taste.

[QUOTE=RoWoX3M;27783759]Does he fix the LCI design in your opinion? Just started following this guy.
Im personally not a fan of the new tail lights so I really like what he's done with the rear. |

BMW's current design language is to add a lot of shapes/lines/vents/angles on the front and rear that grab your attention. Doesn't seem to matter if they're cohesive design or not, they're definitely adding more. At the same time, they've subdued the hard lines on the side along the handle line, and kind of softened the side profile. To me, it's a busy mess up front and in the back, and a slab of nothingness on the side, but that's just a personal opinion.
If you want something that stands out more than BMW used to, you're in luck. Not only do they stand out more, but they're better performing in a lot of measures than ever before. Plus the X3M LCI upgrades give you more color options, slightly updated interior, and more power. If you like the aesthetics, you're in a great spot! If you're like me, and always loved the clean lines of BMWs, and the slight underratedness of a M3 car compared to a regular old 3 series (or in this case X3M vs X3), then I think you're out of luck. Frank Stephenson (X5 designer) has some good youtube videos on the 4 series and iX that make that make it really clear how the current design language does or doesn't interplay with the BMW of old. Also, that's my thoughts on BMW overall right now. To me, the X3M is an even bigger mess, since this car was really generally designed around F platform styling (the 3rd gen X3 was an 18 model year), so they've put new design language G platform styling bumpers on an F platform body. They've also shoehorned a G series center stack in the F series equivalent interior. Again, if you like it, that's amazing. To me it seems like a real mess.

I think it really needs to be seen in the flesh to really get a better idea, but after hating the G80 then loving it in the flesh I was convinced enough to order. I think the pre lci car will look a little dull next to this, and well, I am putting my money where my mouth is! Lol
Equally, I do get peoples point, the pre lci is a fabulous looking car.

Another aspect of this that doesn't get discussed much is the fact that cars are no longer designed NA/Europe....they are designed for China. |

This guy is an excellent sketcher and his design work as a true artist is much much better than the production version LCI. His calm vision and much simpler lines really work and flow well togther. BMW is having a bit of an identity crisis when it comes to the looks of their new cars. The E39 M5 "like this man mentioned" will be a timeless beauty for decades because it was pure untamperred with design that had lots if subtle consistency to it. Wake up BMW.

Does anyone know if there are suspension/adaptive damping changes to the new car? You'd certainly hope BMW has listened to the near universal feedback and make Comfort actually Comfortable for the daily drivers.
My car is 'currently' expected to be delivered in mid October. Last edited by Bufford T; 07-21-2021 at 11:57 AM.. |

Someone has suggested the leather/Alcantara option gives 'full leather' having never seen it I dont know. However I have ordered this option. Perhaps someone could confirm from Pre lci builds

The F10 M5 is very similar to the E39 M5 in terms of clean lines and subtly but it is not 'currently' as fondly remembered as the E39. When my current car (UK spec M140i 5door) first went on sale, again due to the mixture of the headlights and tail-lights it wasn't well received, over time/LCI updates and a new 1 series which is front wheel drive the F20/21 is going to become another 'last of an era' BMW which will no doubt be highly regarded by future generations...just in time for me to sell it to get a new X3 At least I know I am going to be driving another damn good car Last edited by PAS; 08-11-2021 at 07:33 AM.. |
