Audios Stays On After Engine Shutoff

I am experiencing the X3 (2021 X3 M40i) not shutting down completely after turning the ignition off; radio and dash remain on.

Most of the time, I will need to open and close the door and sometimes lock and reopen to have a complete shutdown.

Taking car to dealer for the oil service this week and will have them determine issue; expecting them to say its normal, thus my post.

This has been discussed and is unfortunately "normal". Try pressing the start/stop to shut the engine off and waiting a second or two before opening the door. It'll shutdown. If you do that too fast it stays on. It will also stay on if you have passengers and will shutdown once the last occupant leaves the vehicle.

There should be a setting in iDrive, I think under doors, where you can enable shutting off accessories when opening the door. The BMW doesn't completely go to sleep until after you lock the car.

It's because the ignition won't be off until the car "thinks" everyone is out of the car. You can trick the car to turn the ignition off by opening the driver-side door and then close it. If there are other passengers on board, you need to open and close their doors too.

There maybe other ways to turn the ignition off but I haven't found other ways yet...

I had a similar problem. I went to the IDrive, Car->Settings->Door Access->Comfort Settings->Lock When Walking Away. Now Everything turns off as I get away from my X3.

This is actually desired behaviour. Imagine having a call, switching the engine off and opening driver's door. RIP Bluetooth connection and your call in case the infotainment switches off. Welcome to Volkswagen Group world. You don't probably want this to happen...

Considering how many threads there are about this, I don't think it's desired behavior. I find it annoying when I get out of the car and go to open the hatch, CarPlay will shut off and then an FM station will come on playing some random song.

Perhaps in the event that you're on the phone and shut the engine off (your example), iDrive could simply ask if you'd like to end the call, or switch to your phone, or continue the call and leave the accessories on.

There are "Idle State" options... using the iDrive settings, plus a manual control of the Idle State, using the volume button. Plus the additional automatic shut-downs, like locking the car.

Re the phone call.... from the G01 User Manual.

Quote:
The idle state is not automatically established while a phone call is active.
Oh for the days of ignition keys, when you simply had the key positions 0, 1, 2 & 3. Position 1 gave you the ancillaries, as you turned the key to 0 to remove it, all functions got turned off.

BTW, doesn't a second push of the Stop-Start button (without foot on the brake) also close down ancillaries? I'm sure the G20 I had for a few days did that, just as my F11 does.

Please try this.

Press and hold the volume knob for 3 seconds. The dash and radio should go off.

It worked on my 540 and on my wife's Audi.

It is frustrating when the radio won't turn off and you have to lock the door when it's in your secure garage. Even if the radio shuts off, I've come out to the garage the next morning and brake lights are still on. I don't know why BMW can't seem to fix this. It's a head scratcher.....

This is their engineering thinking too much. Fought it hard on our 2020. Not as bad on new 23. But its on a growing list of beemerware hiccups.

Cannot confirm that. My passenger told me that radio turned off after a few minutes (during me "leaping" to a store, so like in 5 min).
I just wanted to say I'm OK with radio being on until locking the car, since I have xp from VAG. Imagine dribving somewhere, then opening driver's door without any desire to get out (just the fresh air). Infotainment turns off (no matter if I have a call...) and I have to switch it on. This is annoying, happening daily.

I think it should shut off once the seats are no longer occupied.

This worked for me, thanks. It seemed more like 1-2 seconds for it to shut off. Also, I tried pressing the start button twice but that did nothing, but I'm glad to have some way to shut off the Jonas brothers before hopping out.

This is a ridiculous "feature"! My radio will stay on for hours after shut down while sitting in the garage. Have had this car to the dealer three different times for anomalies such as this and they "can't find anything wrong", really disappointed in BMW's software development...full of bugs!

...and you confirm that you waited a few seconds AFTER engine shut down and before you opened the drivers door (AND also the passenger door IF there is a passenger in that seat too)?

Also, when you exit the car and lock the car does the radio remain on?

On mine, even if I exit the car quickly once the car is shut down and the radio stays on.....the car will completely shut down in about 10 minutes...lights, radio etc.)

I know I'm the outlier here, but I'll never understand what the big deal is with this "issue"...just lock the car (even if in the garage). Everything off. Done & done.

Certainly the simplest way to ensure the electronics power down correctly.

Don't understand how a radio stays on, even unlocked, as it should power off in about 8 minutes anyway.

This is how it is supposed to work, whatever the configurations.

Quote:
Idle state
Concept

If the vehicle is in idle state, it is switched off. All power consumers are deactivated.

General information
The vehicle is in idle state prior to opening from the outside and after exiting and locking.
Quote:
Automatic idle state
The idle state is automatically established under the following conditions:

After several minutes, if no operation takes place on the vehicle.
If the radio doesn't shut down after several minutes, there is a fault.

Is it a version of my home is my castle and therefore locking a car in their garage is an affront? I’m not convinced U.K. insurance would pay out if a deliberately unlocked car were to be stolen.
