Radiator Grill Air/Vent Flaps Extended Warranty

I just received notification from BMWNA that the warranty for inoperable grill flaps has been extended to 15 years or 150K miles on my '18 M40i.

That's really good news since they have been a pain in the ass so far. Hopefully I wont have to worry about them again or at least having to pay for it out of my own pocket.

Has anyone else received the same letter?

No but I would love to see it. My dealer keeps telling me it’s software and not hardware

This is kinda interesting.....
I recently brought a used X4 M40i (G02) & it has no grill flaps.
Build date was May 2018 from Spartenburg but for market it say "European" (i'm South Africa) Other thing i noticed is i'm 823 - "Hot Climate Version"
Ain't no hotter than Hono here tho.
I pulled the service records & theres no mention of anything other than just brake pads & oil on there so i don't think they've removed them.

Hi,
We have an X3M40i in Abu Dhabi, from new.
It did not come with the grille flaps - too hot for them here!
We also have 823 Hot Climate version (and 822 Gulf version) on our build sheet
Cheers
Steve

I have an '18 M40i and just received the same letter yesterday. I am the original owner, custom ordered, and haven't had any issues with them yet, hopefully it stays that way (in TX).

That's really good news since they have been a pain in the ass so far. Hopefully I wont have to worry about them again or at least having to pay for it out of my own pocket.

Has anyone else received the same letter?

I opened the mail today and saw this. very happy. My X3 M40i has been in the shop exactly twice, both times due to this, from what I can tell on the service invoice, once was upper, other time was lower module.

almost didn't even open the mail, I thought it was one of those extended warranty offers on one of my prior BMW's. glad I did. I haven't posted here in a long time, logged just to be thankful for this

Yes, I received the warranty extension too.

I did need the grill flaps replaced...so it is a system weakness. Glad they are covered longer.

I got a check engine light two days ago on my 2019 x4 m40i and its still on. service is scheduled for week after next, but I can already tell its the grill shutters they are stuck open. hope we all get this extended warranty as this vehicle only has 9k miles on it.

Did anyone get the extended warranty on their 30i? I've had my shutters replaced already.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but here is a copy of the extended warranty letter I received back in Dec 2019.

FWIW, the last time I brought the car in for service for this issue I thought they repaired it but not really. The stealer simply disconnected the drive actuator from the lower flap mechanism thus making it so no code is thrown when the flaps bind up. You can hear the actuator going through its homing sequence but the lower flaps never move.

Very sneaky of them but at least I don't have a check engine light on for something this stupid. I'm not sure if I should bring this up to them or not on my next service, we'll see.....

Good luck to everyone that is fighting this nonsense, I hope the copy of the letter helps you out.

I highly doubt a technician would disconnect it mechanically, seems like a huge liability and absolutely no reason why they wouldn't have just replaced the flaps. I wouldn't make accusations about that unless you know for sure it is disconnected.
