Hi fellas. I hope that one of you F97 X3 M gurus can help me out here. I've always hated the way the cross-drilled rotors rust the moment you look at them. Now that I have the 6-piston X5 M calipers on my X3 MC, I'm going to ditch the cross-drilled rotors & go for the tradition vented blanks. They not only have much more meat for the bigger pads to grip onto... they're also coated from the factory & will not rust. In other words, they will look much better in the long run & last much longer too. They also won't chew up my pads & dust as much.

The FRONT ROTORS measure 395x36mm & are EASY TO SOURCE from a 2020 G05 X5 40i X-Drive. These two nice SUV's share the very same front calipers. So finding these FRONT ROTORS were a piece of cake one you select the right diameter & width rotors. The rear rotors however, are a much different story.

The REAR ROTORS measure 370x24mm & are NOT EASY TO SOURCE. I pulled up the (rear brake diagram) from this same 2020 G05 X5 40i X-Drive & got a part number 34-21-6-860-927. And these were non side specific. So they would be need to be ordered in a pair, in other words x2. But BMW parts guy says this isn't a great part & none are currently available in the country. BMW parts guys also they're currently experiencing rotor issues. So WTF guys & gals. I also walked around the lot & found a few current gen X5's. So pulled their VIN #'s & my parts guy came up with 2 different "potential" rear brake rotor part numbers. That measured 370x24mm. But he could not be sure this would fit or work. So his confidence level was really low on this.

He pulled up two different part numbers from those vins...

^^^ The first series of numbers looks like he could probably get them. The second series of numbers say they're backordered. But the applications for the REAR ROTORS ending in 673 & 674 don't show they fit an X5. So WTF should I do... ??

The rear rotors (with the part numbers below) provide me this application, fitment guide. But I'm not seeing the X5 in that listing anywhere. So I need some help from people who like to really tweak & modify their X3 M's. Hope that someone who's been modifying the F97 for a while can chime in. BrockDM perhaps...

I found this site to be better for looking up part #s for current models. It says these part #s fit the x5.

Typo in your OP - front rotors are 395mm not 295.

Good eye & typo fixed. I'm glad you caught that & I promptly made the correction. It's good to have our figures correct just in case anyone else want to replicate this same mod down the road.

Did you also switched your rear calipers to that of the X5 or just the front?

I thought about doing this since I started looking at BMW cars. An old friend/former coworker has an E63 M6 and he can direct swap alpina brakes. Sadly I dont think thats an option for us.

You mentioned "for the rear X5 that the rears are not side specific so they would be need to be ordered in a pair, in other words x2." You mean two pairs of left, or two pairs of right? Or 2 pairs left+right?

I always use zeigler bmw in Chi-town, cheapest prices anywhere, the parts guys are top notch and good service. Why not "downgrade" to the rear solid rotors from the M40i?

It's much easier than you think. The front calipers from the X5 M were a direct bolt on & they share the same front rotors. So swapping the same size rotors (non cross-drilled) is a piece of cake. The same things can be done for the rear I believe. And you will need a L & R side specific rear rotor. During my preliminary research & digging around I was looking at a bogus old part number from an older diagram. So don't follow that early research assumption that I was making. We believe the part numbers ending 673 & 674 should do the trick...

The moment the factory rotors hit even a single drop of water or when they're left out in the dewey cooler air over night they "instantly" rust. And the brake pad height of the 6-piston brakes leave a touch 1/4" less swept area near the full floating hat for even more ugly orange/brownish rust to be seen. So I can't wait to fix that. Better pictures soon & enjoy the eye candy in the background...

Is this purely for aesthetics? I prefer slotted and dimpled rotors. Do you know if any after market in that version?

Dynamic friction Geo mat coated rotors seem to not rust at all. Been through an entire year with them and no signs of corrosion. Car gets washed 3-5 times a week. Also went with their 5000 series pads for little to no dust and zero noise.

Sorry for the FALSE ALARM here fellas. I quickly found out that these solid rotors will NOT WORK unfortunately on the X3 M. The wheel hub assembly is VERY different from the normal ones on the standard X3 & X5...

Is that flat rotor off the x5 non M? Looks like a whole spindle swap would be needed...
