$5k for a 50K service for 2019 X3M40I ?

I gave my car to a dealer in Chicago Suburbs today, and here's my service estimate. I've attached what the my BMW app recommends. I did a coolant flush and an engine flush at 40k. The vehicle is a 2019 CPO bought at 35k miles and Brake Fluid Flush was done at 25k miles. I do drive alot lot but the question is does this make sense ? Or am I getting extra special pricing ?

Basic Service
Oil Change
Cabin Air Filter
Windshield wiper fluid
Wheel Alignment
Rotate and Balance Tires

Mandatory Per the Dealer.
FRONT BRAKES COMPLETE (yet to get an update on front brakes thickness)
PDTC - REPLACE Transfer Case Fluid
PD64 - Replace Differential Fluid
PFGI - Perform Fuel Injection Service
PFEC- Install Ethanol corrosion Kit
Replace Spark Plugs
PD96 - Replace Rear Differential Fluid
PT12LV/PTSC - Perform Automatic Transmission Fluid Exchange

Estimate - $5222.51

I might be wrong but the 2019 models had 4 years of Maintenance included. Yes some on the list are not covered.

Ask (or post) the cost breakdown per service.

If the warranty is close to be over (sometime in 2023) it's time to DIY or find an independent.

Lol, tell them to get fucked... pretty much the only thing on that list I would even remotely consider doing is the brakes everything else is definitely not needed at 35k miles. I'd even question the brakes.

This is all fluff, BS

PDTC - REPLACE Transfer Case Fluid
PD64 - Replace Differential Fluid
PFGI - Perform Fuel Injection Service
PFEC- Install Ethanol corrosion Kit
Replace Spark Plugs
PD96 - Replace Rear Differential Fluid
PT12LV/PTSC - Perform Automatic Transmission Fluid Exchange

19's were three years of service and it doesn't include the brakes anymore, mine just ended. Four years for warranty and connectivity.

Wheel Alignment - why? are you seeing uneven
tire wear —— No, but last service time the same dealer pointed the front tires and rear tires having an uneven wear and recommended doing it, I felt the difference in wear.

Rotate and Balance Tires - is your steering wheel
vibrating at speed? It is a little bit and also hearing a hollow rotational noise when the vehicle goes in heavy braking.

I am getting my front driver side tire replaced since its under tire warranty through bmw and had a puncture that was pretty big.

Brakes have a minor lip due to wear so need to verify the thickness of the rotors.

I just dont see any recommendations from bmw regarding the flushes and I am going to tell the service to go kick rocks. Thanks

The vehicle is at 50k miles. Honestly the brakes are alright. If I am doing the pads I am going to get the rotor surface evened and for that I'll have to search for an Individual garage.

Judging from your answers, it looks like you could use a few of the services they recommended.

Take your car to an indie shop and see what they think.

Short answer, you’re getting raped!

Oil change takes 30 minutes and $50 in your own garage.
Cabin air filter…. Couple bucks and super easy, go on YouTube.
Does your car drive straight still, any uneven wear on tires? If not, no need for an alignment.
Brakes are super easy to do and inexpensive. Pads all around are only a few hundred dollars.
Spark plugs, easy and under $100.

The only thing on this list that actually takes a bit of work is the transmission fluid as there are VERY specific steps and a scanning tool needed to perform.

Don’t do this at the stealership, thats absolutely outrageous. I am in the greater Chicagoland area and if I were you, I would save thousands of dollars and go to a reputable Indy shop. Take a look at Fluid Motor Union in Naperville. PM me if you have any questions. There isn’t a chance in hell I would even consider paying that. That’s fucked.

Total rip off. Stay away from the stealerships. They’re all scumbags. You can DIY all of this in your driveway. Heck, if you’re in the northern suburbs (I’m in Lincolnshire), I’ll come over and show you how to do it. Get all fluids and change kits from FCP Euro and save a boatload (and also do it right vs. idiot techs who don’t give a crap about your car). The ZF 8HP isn’t too difficult to service; I already did it on my X5 and L494. ZF says to do @ 60k miles.

Know of any shops in the Glenview/Morton Grove/Niles/Northbrook area? Or, I may need to use you for bmw service. Thanks!

Wow. Kudos to you. This is a bit much for work. Just wondering if there is anything closer to me.

The website is weird how it shows.

I don't know about others, but I still can't get over the fact that a BMW dealership is proactively suggesting you change the ATF, front & rear diff, and transfer case fluids. I've never found a dealer interested in changing those "lifetime" fluids. I've always used indy shops for those services.

Good luck...

I tried these guys in Northbrook for a brake job on my last car (Volkswagen Passat). They were extremely professional.

midwestperformancecars.com

I live in West Loop, Chicago and this dealership is close to an hour away from me. And the funniest thing is the service center in the city is run by confused technicians. I may either go with Fluid Motor or MPC northbrook.

I have asked this question to the dealer repeatedly to show me the routine of all these fluid exchanges or replacement. Dealer said B58 is designed like a "Diesel Engine" and to clear out the carbon buildup you need
Transfer Case Fluid
Front diff fluid
Rear diff fluid

This sounds completely vague to me. Everyone over here agrees that the money charged is preposterous and so is the service schedule.

For years, my father has been using MBS Automotive in Northbrook for all of his Euro cars. He speaks highly of Telly over there. Being in Lincolnshire, if there’s anything outside my comfort zone, I bring mine to Autobahn Motor Works in Mundelein. Tony’s extremely competent and honest.
