Has anyone else noticed that their M40i exhaust tips are not the same distance from the above rear bumper? Ours looks very noticeably uneven. Is there a plausible reason for this besides a manufacturing deviation? This was not from any impact damage. Cheers

Looks like a manufacturing defect that should have been caught in the inspection process.

I have a small difference from left to right also. Very small. Not that large. Driver side is about 1/16-1/8 of an inch lower than passenger side. Left sitting a bit lower than the right... Also a 21 Glacier Silver build from earlier this year...

I'm sure you can probably play with the exhaust hangers to get those even. If you have ever installed an axle back muffler it takes a bit of adjusting of the exhaust hangers to line up the tips with the exhaust cut-outs.

I had this issue on my '18 and mentioned to the service advisor. Easily adjusted and back to correct fitment. Just talk to your SA

Wait I thought it was healthy for one ball to be lower than the other? 😂

Yeah I would report it to your SA and they should be able to get it straightened out.

Not only are the tail pipes at noticeably different gap levels from the rear bumper I noticed today that the rear tailgate has a much bigger gap on the right side between it and the rear body panel. It's seems like the the entire tailgate needs to be adjusted and shifted to the right. Very disappointing and apparent shoddy build quality. I'm sure its a simple adjustment to correct both issues but it's only a few weeks old. So much for the new car excitement… :

A misaligned rear hatch or bumper cover (causing the illusion of a misaligned hatch) is not common.
Do check to make sure the vehicle was not “repaired” in anyway prior to it arriving at the dealership.

Mine are very uneven, but I just bought the car used. Could someone with a new, perfect alignment post the “correct” tip/bumper gap? Aligning exhaust is normally a brute force exercise.

It was a Performance Center Delivery.

I was able to raise my right exhaust tip 3/8” by garroting the rubber hanger with a heavy duty black nylon zip tie. Took 5 minutes. The hangers themselves proved remarkably resistant to persuasion.

I just noticed I have this issue too. Any hassle from the dealership for those who have fixed it?

Mine is the same. Drivers side hangs lower. 2022. Not much but noticable if your looking for it.
