Phytonic Blau X3 M40i Build Thread

All I can say is I love my X3 M40i! What a vehicle! It does things an SUV has no business doing and it's been a blast to drive the past 6 months.

I promised myself that I'd keep the car mostly stock, but once you get the itch... well, you know how the story goes.

2018 X3 M40i in Phytonic Blue.

Current mod list:

- BBS LM 21x9 et22, 21x10 et40 in Diamond Black (Big thanks to Supreme Power for having BBS USA and Japan build me this set of 21" LM's in Diamond Black)
- Pirelli PZero PZ4 OEM runflats - 245/40/21, 275/35/21
- AC Schnitzer lowering springs
- Spacers 11mm front, 15mm rear. Effective wheel offsets: 21x9 et11, 21x10 et25
- OEM Black grilles
- IND Painted front reflectors, black boomerangs, mirror caps, side vent markers
- M Performance decal
- Pinnacle One 35% ceramic tint fronts
- Llumar Air80 front windshield tint
- Ceramic Pro coating with 5 Year Warranty
- Modesta BC06 ceramic wheel coating
- M Sport or M Performance steering wheel retrofit
- Autotecknic Competition Shift Paddles in Stealth Black
- Vanity plate

I know some may not like the M Performance decals but I think it's a nice way to make the profile look a bit more aggressive. I may remove them down the line but for now, I'm having a lot of fun with them.

2/14/19

- OEM Black grilles
- IND Painted front reflectors, black boomerangs, mirror caps, side vent markers
- Tinted fog lights

For those that are interested, here are some pics of when I ran the 255 40 21 and 285 35 21 Continental ContiSportContact 5 tires on 21x9 and 21x10.

The non-runflat tires (which also have a little more meat in this setup) are so much more compliant and smooth. But I switched the tires back out to the Pirelli Runflats because I like the lower profile look on the LM's as opposed to the beefy look. But that's subjective. Also, I had to remove the spacers for this setup as it rubbed with the wider tires.

I hope Michelin comes out with a 245 40 21 and 275 35 21 P4S setup soon. The sloping sidewall of the Pirelli Pzero PZ4 makes the tires look stretched, even though they aren't so a straighter Michelin P4S sidewall would be perfect.

Love BBS wheels, but I swear those look like fat 1950's white wall tires from a side view. Only thing missing is some moon hubcaps!

Thanks for the kind words! The springs are really great. I'd say they're about 15% stiffer than stock. Whatever body roll that was there with the stock M40i suspension has been eliminated. The passive suspension I have is pretty stiff to begin with so the ride with springs can be punishing at times on bad roads. But now this thing feels like it takes corners like my 435GC on KW coilovers. I took the car up to the mountains to take pics this past week and I couldn't stop smiling as I took on the twisties.

Haha, you see what you see! I do love me some classic white walls on classic cars tho. We should bring those back! Haha.

Thanks so much! I've been a monochrome color guy for the past 5 cars and I said to myself it's time for a change this time around. I had color remorse for the first two weeks because the blue was definitely flashier than I'm used to but when I started seeing the Phytonic Blue in different lighting conditions, I knew I had made the right choice. Now I love the blue and I'm so glad I went out of my comfort zone! You should definitely give it another shot!
