Auto-dimming displays with tinted windows

Has anyone come across a solution that solves the issue of the digital dash and center screens dimming prematurely in a vehicle with tinted windows? I currently have 15% tints on all side windows, nothing on windshield.

I've had the tints for just about a year and had resolved myself to living with the auto-dimming, but I figured why not see if there's any easy solution I'm missing before I give the car to my fiancée.

Relevant info: 2019 x3 m40, 15% tints on all side windows, windshield untouched, roof sunshade closed 99% of the time.

I feel like I remember seeing a massive thread on this problem a while back... Have you tried searching? You might be able to find something.

Yes, you can code the displays to keep a set brightness rather than auto dim. I’m currently running that in my car.

As mentioned above… several threads on this already. You can code the change to a brighter setting.

Whatever you code will be brighter than what the ambient light sensor was limiting you to.

I don't know a whole lot about the panels themselves, but keep in mind: As these are displays, higher brightness leads to a lower longevity and higher chance of failure/burn in.

We’re not talking about “overclocking” the brightness. It’s overriding the ambient light sensor.

If the sensor would have set the brightness on a sunny day at 8/10 and a cloudy day at 4/10. With the tint it only sets it at, say, 5/10 sunny and 3/10 cloudy.

I code the brightness to a set number, like 7/10 and that’s what it stays at no matter what.

I didn't assume it was overclocking. Even a 8,9,10 out of 10 increases power, heat, burn in, and lowers lifespan. We don't know how long a display like ours lasts in the grand scheme of things, as new as they are.

It's just food for thought, not saying anything will actually happen.

Thanks for the replies all, very much appreciated.

The general consensus is that coding is the answer. I'll start my research down that path this week.

Thanks again.
