As far as drivability, it's difficult to control power delivery with a small displacement engine (remember 1.5 liters feeding each turbo) because the engine can't make much torque without the turbos spooled. This is do to the combination of having small displacement and running lower compression for a forced induction engine. So, when the turbo spools you feel the engine spike in torque which usually will cause the tires to break loose. This is where having all wheel drive comes into play. If you stay in front of your peak torque, you will not feel that spike in torque. Also, having a torque converter will inherently help power delivery by acting like a shock absorber to the engine.

There's a lot more to it, I don't have time to get into, but this is a general summary in a nutshell.

Is the final word on the power band with this engine? No way the power can be brought in earlier with a tune? From what you have said (which makes sense btw) the engine wont run any other way. It's why the B58 has more torque low down due to the turbo having 3.0l of displacement to work with?

It's a shame as it's a major gripe coming from a derv, dealer lent me x3 30d the other day and I soooo miss the drivibilty of having more torque ( it was on on Mich latitudes too which made the passive suspension very nice) Didnt miss the huge amount of front end understeer tho...

Any news on the Dinan tune for the F97 anywhere?

Do you have to use a cable or wifi unit with BM3 or can you use a bluetooth unit like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NFLL3NT...roduct_details

This won't work because this unit is locked, BM3 uses a special image for WiFi.
You can use get a iPhone to ENET Adapter and a OBD to ENET Cable, basically direct connect to your Phone or Android and will work super quick!

Been meaning to ask. Is there any point in adding in a couple gallons of e85 to a 93 tune to bump the e mix up to around 15-20? I wasn't sure if this would help remove concerns about the quality of the 93.

Yep, sure is.
In Australia our “98” (93) is borderline, more like a 92.5.
I always run E85 at a few percent minimum.

Even 1/2 to 1 gallon per tank would make a difference.
That said, you can easily run 15% or so on a petrol tune if you want to maximise performance.

I’ve been running BM3 in my X3m40i for the past 6 months on anywhere between E10 and E50.
On the higher mixes you’ll want to change to cooler plugs and gap them down a bit.
Lots of info around about it.

Another happy BM3 customer, I set out yesterday to do some runs.

Bought the car used on Friday, flashed to stage 1 - 93 within a few days then went straight to E30 as it worked so well in my X3M40i.

The thing which surprised me most was the "learning" the ECU obviously does with high power runs. I had traction issues as it was quite cold - 6 degrees C (43 degrees F), but nevertheless the car got a lost faster.

Run 1 was 11.37
Run 2 was 11.15
Run 3 was 11.00
Run 4 was 10.85

Terminal speed impressed me, looks like close to the highest on Dragy with an OTS map. Very hard to work out who has a custom map and who is using OTS though, many people are coy.

Next stop is the custom tune which will use an E70 blend, the goal is to knock 2-3 tenths off once combined with new tyres.

It will even do better than 10.85 if you can improve your 60'ft , the best I managed was 10.78 as well as 2 other guys. These are impressive times on just OTS E30 comparing to 99% others Custom Tunes out there lmao. BM3 FTW

Yeah, my tyres are rubbish, I should pick up a bit from a better 60ft straight away.Very worn Conti's.

Will go back and test once the custom tune is done, new rubber while ensuring conditions are as close to perfect as possible.

Given the theory of the potential 100 launch limit (until things are slowed a bit) I am using up my launches very carefully.

Is it recommended to do an oil change every 5k miles, with an OTS 93 tune? If so, are you guys using the OEM oil, or liqui moly? Any other maintenance ticket items that need to be expedited (i.e. spark plug)?

Thanks!

Spark plugs every 15k miles for me as well. Thats running E85 tune.
Regular BMW oil is fine. Unless you're in upgraded turbo tunes.
Best suggestion is to move up all required maintenance. Thats all.

How are you guys doing now with BM3 and the service dept. I've always had a good SA but was warned early on with these new cars that they are detecting these tunes easier now.

It wasn't an issue prior when I was running my F82 but was hesitant with doing this on my truck. What's everyones experience been so far?

Also have the 2022's been unlocked yet?

Im also interested in this. Ive recently moved from a Audi S4, and one of the negatives with them was that Audi has to plug in the car when serviced and this will detect any tunes and TD1 the car. There was no way around it as this was mandated by Audi Germany.

Is it the same with BMW ?

I've had horrible experience the last 2yrs taking my car in for service other than oil changes the car usually comes back with something missing. One dealer in NYC has seen 2 of my cars both times for spark plugs interval and within 500 miles the car starts misfiring/drivetrain malfunction and my independent bmw certified mechanics (2 different as well) both found improper installation of spark plugs (not seated or tighten properly).

My car from now on especially tuned don't go to the dealer unless it's for brakes/rotors as I paid for it in the maintenance pkg. I do my own oil changes and spark plugs service as I don't want to wait 10k miles like bmw calls for it.

2021+ have been unlocked already, actually jairomvp182 has a 2022 X3M i think it's the first one on Bootmod3 with a 22 model for over a month. Has Dyno plots on Stock, STG1 93, E30 and Custom E40-E70 tunes too. Msg him on IG @jairoMVP or here cool guy
