Hi All, My x3m has been the test fitment and one of the road testing vehicles for the solid rear diff bushing, that’s been developed by Einhorn Industries, who specializes in permanently solving weak/failure points in M cars. You’ve seen this bushing mentioned and tested by Dawgz and another high horsepower x3m comp owner, as well. I’ve been testing it for a couple of months now. Please note that this is my daily driver, I don’t drag race, but I do drive my car hard with occasional spirited driving. So here is my experience with the bushing:

After the first initial install, right away, I felt that the rear end was solid and there’s no NVH at all. I’ve launched my car many times @2700 rpm, with this bushing and all has been consistent. I never broke traction or wheel hop with oem size of 265 rear on PS4s. The car literally just takes off. I’ve also done a few burnouts using 2wd (3rdparty program). Everything feels solid even shifting on s3 with my xhp stage 3 flash. No noises on hard shifting either.

During this test phase, I’ve tested it with the OEM rear diff bolt and the Belmetrics M14 bolt. The oem bolt held up but there’s still little play as the bolt is not a true m14 bolt (it’s skinnier). Installing the Belmetrics bolt the movement was very very minimal. When I refer to movement, this is just sliding the bolt in, without tightening to the recommended torque spec., yet. The slight play in movement is because the ID of the diff’s ear is slightly bigger than M14 (not sure the actual size) but with the bushing and belmetrics bolt installed to the proper torque spec, I feel really confident that this is a permanent fix, due to the big reduction of movement that was caused by the cheesy oem bushing. I feel that the oem bolt will work and hold up with this bushing but highly recommend going with a true M14 x 1.5 bolt.

On another note..this makes a great mod, even if it was for a fix or not.

The longer we keep our X3 M's & the more familiar we get with this platform, the more we're going to want to push the SAV harder. Even if it's a daily driver & simply driven on the street. The whole concept of this reinforcement seem to be a great foundation for making the rear more planted. Glad there is no new NVH concerns with this.

I just got my F97 back with the diff bushing in. There is a slight whine that I can hear at speed if the music is completely off, but it's only noticable because I am listening for it. Way different than the poly diff bushings I have in my E46. I don't mind it in the least. It's worth it for the peace of mind.

I do also hear/feel a slight clunk at low speeds when going from load to no-load and vice versa on the drivetrain. So from coasting to acceleration I hear a light clunk and then again when letting off and coasting. Has any one else noticed this?

Again these are only things I am noticing because I'm paying close attention after this install.

I have yet to install (but have the bushing) due to concerns of NVH. Any updates or is it pretty much as stated, slightly more noise?

I just had mines installed about a week ago. No real additional NVH that I am noticing. As mentioned above, the most you get is a slight "whirring" sound. Kind of like a Tesla motors. But if you have music on or the windows down, you wont even hear it. And then there's the "clunk" sound as mentioned. Which I'm pretty sure is due to the driveshaft issue. Other than that, no issues.

Did you get the driveshaft clunk noise after the unicorn install?
