My New Baby Got Hit

Not even a month old and she got hurt already. Was going straight from a stop sign and the guy coming the other way takes a sharp left turn without seeing me and smashes straight into my left front bumper. Funny thing was that his car was a new Audi A6 less than a month old as well. Needless to say we were both pretty upset. At the end of the day, neither one of us was hurt and our cars will be made we'll again soon enough. Be safe out there boys!

ouch. i'd be soo annoyed. But I agree with your sentiments, most important thing is that no one was hurt. Metal, glass and plastic can always be replaced.

A view to think about . . . If other driver caused the accident and was cited for a
traffic infraction. After all is repaired, you have a newly repaired newer vehicle.
That vehicle is also worth LESS since it now has a damage report against it.
Some states are allowing legal procedings usually in small claims court, for
victims to recover the lost value of the vehicle. If valued at ?? 30K and repairs
lower the value of the vehicle by $3K, you can file for recovery of that.
IF permitted in your area.

Oh, no! That sucks.

Do you have the Drive Recorder option? If so, did the automatic crash recording function properly?

Glad you are safe. Now the issue comes down to resale value since it's probably going to be reported on the carfax. If it's a lease then it's not a big deal, but if it was financed, I'd be pissed.

Check this out: https://time.com/nextadvisor/insuran...d-value-claim/

I'd absolutely make his insurance pay for the diminishing value of the car.

You got lucky with very minimal damage. How did the A6 fare?

This is exactly why a dashcam is a must these days. Anything can happen at any time.

So sorry to hear that, that's why I don't daily drive my BMWs, I usually only drive them at night when there's nobody around or go to the mall after rush hours as well as other short trips. You're fine, that's the most important thing like you said, you came out of this with no major injuries. It could have been much worse. If you plan on keeping this car, Carfax isn't going to matter to you that much...

What an American comment... litigate first, ask questions later... but putting that aside, why is the car worth less?

New bumper, new fasteners, its not like any BMW dealer is going to "repair" anything.. everything just gets replaced, torqued back up to spec.. same thing as having a new parking sensor replaced.. or whatever would require the front bumper to be removed. Heck, even having vinyl wrap installed at a high end shop, could end up with those same fasteners being removed and reinstalled...

I get its money, but insurance is paying for it anyway, and obviously at the other drivers fault.. why you gotta go that extra mile and talk about lawsuits.

Is this a real comment? Did you completely forget that buyers of vehicles do not want a vehicle that has been in an accident because they have no idea how it was repaired? Therefore there is increased risk in purchasing a vehicle that has been in an accident thus making it worth less?

This is the most logical train of thought that most people follow... or you know google diminished value claims?

Get off your high horse. Must be a perfect world up there in Canada.

100% this. Diminished value is definitely a thing and on an enthusiast car it can be substantial. I'm in the market now and avoiding anything with an accident in the history. Definitely impacts resale.
