Dealership speak, I know. But I asked them today about remote start and they were adamant that BMW is going to offer to enable it down the line through the connected app.

According to them, all idrive 7 have the capability regardless of the hardware level. They said that came straight from the BMW product owner.

I really hope so. I bet the refresh will have it. This always happens. We bought my wife a 20 Tesla Model 3, 2 months later they had the power trunk. I just bought a 21 X3MC, so of course the next iteration will have remote start and a power bump (like when I bought my 19 M40i).

Right, there really is no "safe" time to buy anymore. Having said that, I don't think we will see a power bump with the LCI, very rarely (if ever) has BMW done that with true M LCIs

Ridiculous. My 2007 Yukon XL had remote start. Virtually every X3 competitor has had it for years too. Not exactly rocket science.

Hope that is true but I would question if the hardware is there, why wouldn't it be enabled already? Every other model in their line up with idrive 7 has it, why would they turn it off just for x3/x4s ?

This is true. This has been indicated since late 2019 /early 2020 that remote start will become available to ALL idrive 7 vehicles (including G30 pre LCI and G01 pre lci) summer 2020. As we all know this has not happened yet, and I do not have any reasoning as to why. This feature will become available as an optional extra to purchase on the Connected Drive portal when it releases.

G01/G02 does not full idrive 7 implementation. Same as pre LCI G30. They both have SP15 idrive 7 and not full SP18 idrive 7. This is the main reason why.
