I am in the process of deciding on a new vehicle to potentially replace a full size pickup and wanted to see if a trailer hitch could be fitted or has been fitted to the X3M comp. Trailer hitch would be for a bike rack and not for actually towing anything.

Yes. Myself and many others on this forum have installed the stealth hitch. Check it out.

I opted for the roof rack option vs the invasive, expensive hitch option. The m40i has the tow option for hitch if you handle not having the full M.

I would also look into CURT hitches. I had mine installed at U-Haul.....they did a fantastic job and it looks GREAT. It's also a LOT cheaper too. It's stealthy enough that you barely notice it. I too mountain bike so been using it for that in conjunction with a KUAT rack.

People have reported the curt and the draw-tite fit at least up to 2021, the hitch that lists as fitting the m40i, I bought this one based on someone fitting it on this forum https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 going to fit it to my 2022 this weekend if I can find the time. Also bought the plug and play wiring https://www.etrailer.com/Custom_Fit_...ha/TK77FR.html

I have the now Stealth (Invisihitch/ Excetuhitch) ....I've had it on several X5/X3 (M's) ...It fits perfectly, & when not in use, there is nothing to see.. Very heavy duty + well made... Now, the difference between tongue weight & tongue wait..

I would disagree with it being "the best".

I installed a draw-tite on mine as I hate that you're stuck with their trailer receiver at a fixed height with the stealth. The draw-tite (and curt) allow you to use any normal hitch receiver so you can actually get your trailer set to the proper height.

And it costs $800 more not to see the receiver, stealth hitch is great, but for all I use the trailer hitch it isn't worth the extra money to me.

From an aesthetics perspective, I completely agree.

Love the extra utility it added without having to look at it.

That being said if they offered a factory option at build I would have selected it.

Just wanted to follow up on this, got the time to install, hitch fits perfect on the 2022 X3M no issues, no trimming or cutting and nearly invisible, sits about 1/4 inch under the diffuser tucked in just a little so hardly noticeable.

Stealth Hitch is the best period! Everything else Is junk. I have installed one on my 2020 X3M, 2021 X3MC and installing next week on my 2022 X3MC

My dealer actually has installed both times and it took the tech an hr. He also said the build quality and fit/finish are top notch.

The folding electric hitches that the M models use in Europe aren't available here. No M model offers a hitch as an option here.

Yes, the bumper needs to be removed to install.

The curt hitch install wasn't too bad, took me 2 hours in the garage. Just needed an extra set of hands to help remove the bumper cover without scratching it.

I've had it on an X3, X3MC, X5M Sport, X5M... Dealer installed every time upon delivery.. Absolutely the best..

BMW logic. So my car, built in the US, will have a tow hitch that is not available to locals.

Yep bumper has to come off for any install as all the hitches mount to the actual steel bumper under the plastic bumper, doing it again probably could do it in an hour. Stealth Hitch is probably the best, but I am in this for 250 total with wiring and for the 5 times I will use it for the term of the least, it wasn't worth spending 1000 on the stealth to me.
