M Steering Wheel on 19 X4 M40i

I was at the dealer today and he said that the reason that the 2019 X4 M40i's were not coming with the M steering wheel like the the rest of the world is getting was due to some sort of production shortage or something that has since been resolved. He said that any new orders for the 19's would get the M steering wheel. Has any one else heard this or can confirm this?

The first picture is what has been coming on the X4 M40i's because of the shortage

The second is the M710 steering wheel comes with the X3 M40i

The M one has different leather and is thicker

Which year/model car do you have and which steering wheel?

Collected my X4 M40i late Nov and has the latter M steering wheel.

Ah good, hope that means all future orders will have the correct steering wheel.

How you liking your X4?

I just realized that you're in the UK.. the rest of the world was always getting the correct steering wheel, it was just NA that wasn't.

I'll be asking my dealer about this –*but haven't heard anywhere else. Were you able to get any update?

Not happening for MY 2019.

But you can always retrofit.

Is that 'my' model year or your's specifically? I thought that none of the 19s were going to get them but as I said my dealership said the issue was resolved so I'm hoping that's true.

How much did it cost you to swap steering wheels?

I fixed the post. It should be model year.

I haven't seen an ordering guide for the x4 that shows the msport wheel, even at the m40i level.

So new airbag and used wheel I'm in around 1600.

The carbon fiber trim and paddles from autotechnik are separate.

When placing your order force the dealer to print out the vehicle inquiry report that shows the production number. That is where you can see which wheel will be included with your build.

Don't believe any nonsense that " I heard it will be included " or I was told the production blah blah blah.

Or ,

Tell them that if the car doesn't arrive with the wheel you want you will expect an extra $1850 off the agreed price our you will walk away. All of this of course in writing.

Don't want to sound cynical just helping the community here.

No, not cynical I totally agree with you... I'm actually buying it from another dealership but was at the local one for a test drive.

There is a shortage of the steering wheels for some reason, though I would have thought that the X4 would be the one to get the M wheel while the X3 was the one that got stuck without since the X4 costs more but maybe they sell more 3's and didn't want to impact that?

Not hearing any positive answers back, sounds like we will not be getting it unless you retrofit for a ton of cash.

Hey guys just ordered my 2019 x4 M40i I was told and had a print out of the wheel and indeed I should be getting the M badge wheel! Car production for March 10th.

Does your actual build order show that? My dealership kept changing the my order to add it but BMW NA kept deleting the option and saying that it's not possible. I wouldn't believe it unless it is specifically listed in the order. If it does, can you post a picture?

I know it's petty but the whole thing just really irks me, every other car can get the M Sport wheel even the dumb X1 28i. I almost cancelled my order because of it and probably should have since I know it will annoy me for the life of the car.

It was a print out of the wheel structure I was handed! The magnet worked on this for days because I said I would not take car wothout the M wheel! I only have a deposit on place and refundable, so they better hope it’s on there or I will cancel order. Was assured it would have it. They told me it was a production shortage and know resolved! Hope this helps
